Go Ask Gab: The Great Bag Dilemma

gab-headshot I’m Gab from the LHJ fashion department and from time to time I’ll be answering your burning fashion questions! Our first question comes from my friend, Sarah, who I met for dinner after work recently. As I picked up her huge bag to sit down next to her, I commented how she could have easily fit into it! So she asked me a question I’ve been asked many times before: Where can I find a bag that’s good for both work and weekends?

Smaller totes, satchels and hobos are the way to go. They can fit a surprisingly large amount and still sit comfortably on your shoulder. Here are some great examples from The Sak, J. Crew, and Liz Claiborne:

Or you can embrace switching bags—there may not be one perfect pick for every situation, but it only takes a minute to change it up. For instance, if you’re going somewhere straight from work and don’t want to lug a big bag around, you have to pare down: Maybe you don’t need your full wallet, the book you’re reading or a full set of keys. I’m also a fan of bringing two bags to work. Throw a clutch inside a tote and on your way out the door for the night, grab the clutch and leave the tote at your desk.
