Cheat Sheet: 5 Things You Missed While Living Your Life

whileyouwereoutLife gets hectic. It’s easy to get so swept up in soccer practices, lunch appointments and the never-ending laundry pile that you don’t even have time to check in on headlines, let alone all the fun videos and news stories that everyone’s talking about.

That’s where I come in. I’m Catherine, senior web editor for LHJ. That’s right, it’s my job to play on the Internet all day. So every Friday, I (or Arpita, our associate web editor — you’ll meet her soon) will post the Cheat Sheet. It’s a roundup of things people are talking about, clicking on, and in general paying attention to instead of that pesky laundry pile.  Here’s what was hot this week:

  • Japan’s First Lady: “I Rode a UFO to Venus”
Japan elected a new Prime Minister last weekend, Yukio Hatoyama. He’s known for promises to reverse a generation-long economic decline and to redefine Tokyo’s relationship with Washington. His wife Miyuki Hatoyama, however, has less terrestrial concerns. In her book “Very Strange Things I’ve Encountered,” she talks about the night her soul rode a UFO to Venus. According to Miyuki, the planet is very beautiful, and very green.

  • Glee: It’s Like High School Musical, but Funny
Yes, Fox already ran the first episode of their new comedy about a high school glee club. Twice. And tonight, they’re airing it yet again, this time with real-time twitter messages from cast members at the bottom of the screen. I’m not saying the “tweet-peat” is actually something you need to see (I love Twitter more than anyone, but even for me it’s a bit much), but the show is just pure fun. Catch Glee on Hulu right now, or tune in to Fox tonight.
  • Madonna’s 12-year-old Daughter Recreates ‘Like a Virgin’ Pose
I posted this on Twitter on Wednesday, so apologies for repeating myself. Lourdes dresses up in a wedding dress, red lipstick and teased hair a la Madonna’s 1984 MTV Video Music Awards performance. Really? She’s 12. It’s just icky.
  • The 19th Duggar Child
The Duggar family, of 17 Kids and Counting fame, are expecting number 19. This quote from Duggar dad Jim Bob seems to sum it all up: “”We just couldn’t believe it is happening. This never gets old.”
  • Kids Who Dance!
I just can’t get enough of them. If I had my druthers, I’d always be full-out, no-shame whatsoever about my moves, like these kids getting down to Low, by Flo-Rida.

  1. Oooh, “druthers,” I had to look it up. You’re bringing it back.

  2. I caught Glee this weekend and now I can’t wait for the next episode! Just what I needed–another show to add to my DVR list.

  3. I apologise that, I can help nothing. But it is assured, that you will find the correct decision. Do not despair.

By the way, what do you think about this icons site?

  4. Bravo, what necessary phrase…, an excellent idea
