Guilty Pleasure Movies

joeHello ladies! I am so excited to get to talk with you about one of my favorite subjects—entertainment. I am a self-avowed entertainment connoisseur (because connoisseur sounds much better than junkie). And my tastes definitely run the gamut—I consider Milk and Revolutionary Road to be two of my favorite films from last year, just as much as Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Twilight (oh yes, Twihards, I am one of you). Just like my father—who after countless wine tastings, books on the subject and even his membership in a wine club, still maintains that a $9 bottle from the grocery is one of his favorites—I understand the value of both high- and lowbrow. I will certainly trek downtown to an obscure theater with stale popcorn to see the “It Indie” of the moment, but I will also never turn my nose up at such classics as Joe Versus The Volcano, Troop Beverly Hills or How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days. After a rough day, or a long week, heavy films can be overrated, and for me the formula is quite simple—if you make me laugh, you win my heart. So while there are certain movies that I could recite every line from, and that I will watch again and again, they might not be the ones most prominently displayed by my TV.

Ladies, I’ve told you some of mine—what are some your favorite guilty pleasure movies?

  1. Oh, Troop Beverly Hills is such a good one! Another favorite? Big Business with Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin! And Center Stage and The Cutting Edge.

  2. I love, love, love Troop Beverly Hills and How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days! Plus Love and Basketball, Baby-Sitters Club and What Happens in Vegas. Great topic!

  3. It’s not tooo guilty, but I watch Pride and Prejudice at least once a month. :)

I also love basically any romantic comedy ever made. Bad acting, no plot? I’ll still like it. (Mamma Mia, Bridget Jones, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Chasing Liberty? Yes, sadly I love ‘em all.)

  4. I’ll chime in…Dirty Dancing, Strictly Ballroom, Dirty Dancing II: Havana Nights? All cringe-worthy and sooooo good for rewatching, heh.

  5. I can’t believe I forgot Dirty Dancing! Good call, Yuzhi.

  6. I love all things animated – Pixar, if you’re listening, please make Monsters, Inc. 2! – and use my younger sister as an excuse to see them all on the big screen! And is it wrong to love all movies in which Anne Hathaway is a princess…?

  7. Clueless is, and will always be, my favorite movie.

  8. BEST topic!! I love me some Baby Boom – JC Wyatt was my hero. Also, will watch National Treasure any chance I get…

  9. Ferris Bueller …. “Bueller, Bueller, Bueller” is one of my faves on the comedy side. Broadcast News is also high on my list. But, I’m a softie for any romantic comedy, with Sleepless in Seattle and While You Were Sleeping topping the list!
What a fun topic to get to see other’s pics!

  10. Nothing wrong with a few guilty pleasures…a $9 bottle of wine and The Way We Were or When Harry Met Sally is a perfect evening!
