Be in LHJ: Share Your Act of Kindness Stories
September 30, 2009 at 12:04 pm, by Amanda Wolfe
We’re looking for stories of random (or not-so-random) acts of kindness for an upcoming article in the magazine! No act too big or small—could be the most heartwarming, extraordinary effort by a friend or a lovely little gesture by a kind stranger. If you have a story to share, we’d love to hear it in the comments. (We’ll get in touch with you directly if we’re going to run it.)
So tell us: Have you ever been on the recieiving end of an act of kindess that’s brightened up your day—or your life?

my husband & i were going to my class reunion in ct from fla, we were going to the auto train insanford fla when we had a flat, we had just gotten a cell phone a few weeks before, good thing, we called the AAA and were told it would be within the hour, it was hot hot hot day, we unloaded the truck of all our things for the trip up for the AAA to get to the tire, my husband had just had an eye problem and cld not lift anything out, i did all the removing of luggage and we had only the hour to get to the auto train, it was a ticket that we would loose and not be reinbursed as we had to cancel the first reservation for the eye surgery and this was the 2nd ticket, the AAA was not in sight, along came a little sport car, walking out a woman on her way to work, stopped and asked if she could help, being so kind she got right to it, she asked where we were going, i said to my class reunion and the auto train, she asked what yr i graduated, it said 1957 and funny i told her, that was on my odometer when we left the house and she laughed and said,”that is the yr i was born” what a coincidense i told her, i asked her name and address as i wanted to remember her and send her a note of thnks when we got back to fla and tell her how we made out going on autotrain and the reunion etc, when i asked her name, it was diane and i told her no kidding, that is my name also, when we made it to auto train just about in time we were sooo happy, the AAA did come about the time her fixing the flat was done.. we offered her some $ for going to luch on us, she did not accept it, we took photo of her with the tire iron and me, i sent her the picture and nice note and wanted to know where she like to have dinner up her way as we were going to meet friends in a few months and wanted to take friends to a nice/good place to eat, she did not respond to our inquiry as she must have known that it was not true, and caoght on to my plan…to get in touch with a restaurant she would have suggested and got a gift certificate to that place and send to her for her kindness to us,,, my birthcert says diana but i go by dinae since age 12 as not knowing til then that my cert. was diane, i dont remember if her name was diane or diana but it was the angels who sent her during our time ofdispair, or was she acctually an angel, she was a tomboy type woman in her jeans and tee shirt going to work and stopped to help strangers in need…..we will always remember her kindness, as i remember she worked in a facility something to do with aeronotics, astronauts/ aerospace in palm bay..

I have been terribly sick the past few days and completely bed ridden. I am a working mother of 4 children who doesn’t have time to blink more less nap! My neighbor down the street has three of her own children and we often get together for coffee or a small visit. After hearing that I was sick, she came down to my house and completely cleaned my house! She did my laundry, made my family dinner and even had fresh baked peanut butter cookies for my kids to eat after they finished the last remaining chores she had left for them to do! She was not feeling well also and was just in the hospital for kdney troubles and she still found the energy, and the heart, to come and help me out! That just about sums up what they mean by “love thy neighbor with all your heart”♥

I think even smiling @ a stranger is act of kindness.
Every day after breakfast, we leave bread remaines in the backyard, so the birds that passing by can take it….
in imegration sesones i always leave water in plastic plates for the birds so they can continue their trip….
from time to time i offer my help to my 83 year old naghbour, last time she wanted to move her fridge so pushed it for her….
and life goes on on this way…..

Dear LHJ Members
My name is Sharon Stone. I am a student teacher in a 5th writing class in Lexington, Kentucky. My supervising teacher saw your article Acts of Kindness and incorporated into our lessons for the month of February. Each student was to write about a random act of kindness for 28 days. The majority of the students completed the task. Now that I am teaching all day in the class, I’ve asked them to elaborate on one act so we can submit them to you, if we are still eligible to do so.
Please provide infromation if we can still submit.
