Go Ask Gab: She’s Got Legs…

Gab, how can I wear leggings tastefully?- Karen
This season leggings go beyond the sloppy Lindsey Lohan look of the past. They’re now more like very skinny pants and come in a variety of fabrics from leather to denim to cashmere. Here are my top tips:
* My number one rule with leggings is to wear a top long enough to cover your crotch and butt. No matter how tiny you are it’s just not flattering.
* Top tasteful leggings looks: a long tank top and blazer with booties; a sweater and flat boots; and a short dress with heels.
* Make sure they are thick and opaque- don’t wear thin ones that are like stockings.
* Black is the way to go – this isn’t a place to take risks!
* Undergarments are very important. Undearwear or thongs that lie flat are the best options. Try: Hanky Panky’s, Victoria’s Secret, or American Eagle.
As for my Legging picks…I like: American Apparel, Gap H&M, Madewell (for denim leggings) and Hue. Hue’s skinny legging is my personal favorite (and pictured left).

GREAT suggestions. Follow up question: Are they appropriate in a business casual (no jeans) office?

Thanks for the tips, Gabs. For myself, I think I would go for a more equestrienne look, with jodhpurs and such.
