Ladies We Love: Ree Drummond
March 24, 2010 at 1:33 pm , by Sonia Harmon
In 2006 Ree Drummond started a blog, The Pioneer Woman, to chronicle her rural life on a ranch in Oklahoma with four kids and a cattle rancher husband. Her blog has grown tremendously since then—it was recently named Weblog of the Year by the Bloggie Awards for the second year in a row, and last year she released her first cookbook, The Pioneer Woman Cooks.
Her backstory is the hook: “an accidental country girl,” Ree was content with city life and planning to move to Chicago from Los Angeles—but not before making a quick stop in her Oklahoma hometown. It was then that she met the man who would become her husband—or Marlboro Man as she calls him—and they’ve been together ever since. (Read all about it here; her story is a memoir in the works and also in talks to become a movie.)
Visit Ree’s blog for step-by-step recipes, home and garden tips, beautiful photography and entertaining tales from her everyday life.
What makes me a lady: I don’t chew gum in public. (That’s for you, Mom!)
Favorite guilty pleasure: The Real Housewives of Orange County and Coffee Haagen-Dazs.
Three things on my life list: Raise my children to be creative, compassionate and contented adults, meet Loretta Lynn, and get to the bottom of my laundry pile.
If I could have a superpower, it would be: A photographic memory. And the ability to subsist on little sleep. And the ability to get to the bottom of my laundry pile.
Ladies I admire: Oh, so many. I admire women who are quietly strong. I admire women who are supportive of other women. I admire women who are content, whether it’s on a tiny homestead in Kansas or in a high political office.

Love Ree!! Ladies who are content is a great one–good reminder to try to figure out what makes us content (vs. successful or wealthy or whatever else) and live it.
