Every year you make New Year’s resolutions you can never sick to. Here are five beauty resolutions you can make and keep:
I will keep my hair healthy and strong. Switch to sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners— they’re gentler yet just as efficient as their counterparts. Always use heat-protecting products when styling to prevent damage and split ends. Invest in a showerhead filter, like Aquasana Shower Filter, to prevent the stripping effects of chlorinated tap water. “Your hair will be noticeably softer and shinier, your scalp will be healthier and your color will stay true and last longer,” says celebrity hairstylist River Lloyd of the John Frieda salon in NYC.
I will get enough sleep. Adults are recommended approximately eight hours of sleep each night. Not only does getting enough rest help fight those pesky dark under-eye circles, but sleep helps increase blood circulation meaning your skin will look radiant as well as rested.
I will whiten my teeth. We’ve purchased the pack of whitening strips and half –way through gave up on the routine for one reason or another. This year, it’s time to follow through. Remember, the same treatment doesn’t work for everyone— dietary, drinking and smoking habits can determine how fast the process works and how often you’ll need a touch-up. Also, only gel whiteners, like Opalescence Trèswhite Supreme, work below the surface and have longer lasting effects.
I will always apply moisturizer with SPF before leaving the house. I know how easily moisturizing can slip your mind in the morning while you’re checking your email, picking out an outfit, and grabbing coffee (in that order). So, take a minute out of the morning rush to dab on some facial moisturizer with SPF 15 or higher. Not only will it protect your skin from sun damage, but also moisturizer keeps your skin’s outer layers hydrated, plumping your face and fading fine lines.
I will master the perfect, long-lasting cat-eye. I’ve probably attempted to recreate the perfect Sophia Loren cat-eye hundreds of times, and I doubt I’m alone. Here’s a trick from the pros: first, trace along the upper lash line with a nude pencil to create a base coat and guideline. Follow this step by topping with black liquid liner in small strokes.
