I am so thrilled to have Tina Craig of Bagsnob guest blogging for us. A few months ago, we were shooting a beauty story with makeup guru Bobbi Brown when this teeny tiny burst of energy came in to visit her friend Bobbi. I was thrilled to learn that she was one of the co-founders of Bagsnob, one of my favorite blogs. (And that she has a handsome son who is close in age to my daughter! We’re already planning the wedding!)
Tina often blogs about the perfect bag wardrobe but her taste hovers more in the Hermes price range, which is nice for dreams but not so useful to the rest of us. So, I asked her to take it down notch — a big notch. Here it is: Tina Craig’s perfect bag wardrobe, each under $250!
Christopher Kon “Callie” Leather Hobo Bag
Lush, roomy, and supple with the perfect amount of slouch (not always an easy feat), this throw-in-everything day bag is as well designed as it is well priced. It’s rare to find an Italian leather bag under $300, especially a hobo with details like a hip buckled strap and a hidden-zipper outer-side pocket. Plus, it’s featured in three colors: neutral platinum, midnight blue, and rich tobacco. You could buy all three and still spend less than you would on a single Gucci hobo!
$248. Available at Nordstrom.com
Longchamp “Darshan” Bag
The “Darshan” is every girl’s best traveling companion; I always keep a few of these in my suitcase for shopping sprees – which tend to be inevitable! It’s foldable, lightweight, and expands into a roomy satchel. Longchamp bags come in every color under the sun, but this abstract fuschia flower pattern adds a refreshing splash of color to your luggage, as well as your ensemble.
$255. Available at Longchamp.com
Halston Heritage “Carla” Studded Bag
You don’t need a special occasion to break out your treasure bag. Sparkling like a true gem, this is perfect to glam up a pair of distressed jeans. With alternating studded and sequined paneling, the “Carla” reads more decadent and pricey than its pleasing price tag. It’s on-trend, thanks to the cross-body chain (which is detachable so you can also carry it as a little handbag). Vintage-inspired and retro-fun, it boasts a magnetic flap closure so you can boogie like the original Halston-wearing, Studio 54-revelers!
On sale for $241.50 (from $345) at Bloomingdales.com.
Rebecca Minkoff “3 Zip” Bag
Rebecca Minkoff is the reigning queen of hip, accessible bags. Decked in rocker-chick zippers with extra-long pulls (totally evokes Balenciaga decadence!), this bag will instantly update an old outfit and jazz up a boring one. And the lizard-effect metallic silver will make you stand out in the crowd, as you dash from moonlit streets to the evening hot spots.
$195. Available at ShopBop.com
DKNY White Crocodile Embossed Clutch
I see this white crocodile clutch and I instantly think: Jackie O. on a yacht headed for Capri. Wouldn’t this bright white clutch look divine with big black shades and a silk headscarf? The sparse studs and chunky yet delicate clasp add just enough hardware to keep this piece of hand candy from feeling prissy. The faux croc possesses the high-end glamour of real reptile.$185. Available at select DKNY stores. Available in red leather at Bloomingdales.com
Thanks Tina! So, tell me, what are your 5 favorite handbags?
