Let There Be Light

There comes a moment in every woman’s life when she’s forced to face the inevitable: her first wrinkle.
My moment came while smiling in a mirror. As soon as I stopped, the lines that had marked my smile seemingly froze in place. Devastating. Perhaps I’m overreacting a bit, but one can never fully understand why billions of dollars are spent on anti-aging each year, until that first wrinkle appears.
So, off I went for a facial at Cecilia Wong Skincare in NYC, where Cecilia herself told me that 15 minutes under an LED light would change my life. Of course my skepticism was high and expectations low, but nonetheless I climbed onto the table and relaxed.
Here’s how Cecilia explained what the light would do: LED red and near-infrared light are a “window” of wavelengths that are able to pass through tissue up to an inch deep. The light then “kick-starts” cells into creating more ATP (cellular energy) and increasing DNA and RNA activity.
Though the technical talk had my head spinning, all I needed to know was that by the end of the treatment, my skin would look refreshed and any hints of fine lines, even if brought on by my imagination, would be softened.
Eyes closed and covered, I dozed off while the light did its work. In the end, my skin felt hydrated and softer—but not until I got home and took a second look did I realize that my faint smiles lines were practically gone. Could the light really have erased them? Sounds gimmicky, but if this treatment can put off my wrinkle worry for a little while longer, then I’m sold.

That’s great! Now, what can we do if we can’t get to NYC?
Where can we find the same LED light in the midwest?

Hi Nana,
I apologize for the delayed response. Try this at-home version of the light therapy if you can’t find a spa in your area that does the treatment.
