March 1, 2012 at 6:00 am , by

In our March issue, the beautiful Kate Winslet shared her new passion project—a crusade to spread autism awareness. After narrating a documentary on autistic children who themselves would never be able to speak, she knew she couldn’t just pack up and go home; she was desperate do something to help them. So Kate (and quite a few of her celebrity friends), put together a wonderful new book called The Golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism, sales of which will benefit Kate’s Golden Hat Foundation, a non-profit that advocates for the inclusion and education of autistic children everywhere.

We’re over the moon about this book, and can’t wait for you to pick it up—so we’re giving away 20 signed copies! To enter, just post a comment below.

  12. Kate’s Golden Hat Foundation is doing important work spreading awareness about autism spectrum disorders and raising funds to help children and families impacted by autism.

More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with childhood cancer, juvenile diabetes or pediatric AIDS combined. ASD affects an estimated 3 million individuals in the U.S. and tens of millions worldwide.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identify around 1 in 110 American children as on the autism spectrum–a 600 percent increase in prevalence over the past two decades.

  13. Autism and autism spectrum disorders are more prevalent than people think. Kudos to Kate Winslet for spear-heading this awareness effort!

Thanks again

  54. I am the biggest fan of Kate I have supported you in your acting career and I have also always congratulated you in all the awards that you have won.(even though you don’t know that) I am going to carry on supporting you and certainly for this. I have a close friend who cannot talk because of Autism and I don’t know a lot about it. Please would I be able to have this book so I can know more about Autism and then I can support his other friends and family. I am also raising money to the Golden Hat Foundation to help improve the lives of people with Autism.

  55. Hi Kate,

Would I be able to have a copy of this book because I would love to change the lives of people with Autism, I have always wanted to know more about it and now my chance is here please would you be able to give me a copy of this book and I will do anything to help you make people with Autism lives better I am also raising money to send to the Golden Hat Foundation.
    Becky X

  56. Hi again leading on from my point earlier I have many thanks to give to the Kate Winslet because you have seen such a community where people cannot talk and have chosen to take action to try to improve their lives and I am absoulately sure that you will succeed.

  57. Would love to read this book!

  58. I’m already a fan of Kate Winslet. I also work in a school for children with special needs. We have a lot of children with autism. I learn so much from these children. I would proudly display this book on my coffee table as a converrsation starter.
Thank you Kate for using your profile for a very worthy cause.

  59. Kate, not only am I already a HUGE fan of you, i doubt anybody would disagree with me when I say what an AMAZING foundation thank you for supporting the children of out community and for them to have a chance at a “normal” life. When I first heard about the Golden Hat Foundation I was overwhelmed by what you are going to achieve with this I have already pre-ordered two books of yours already but a signed copy would just be amazing I would then give out the other two books to other people to help spread the awareness of Autism so they can also know more about it. I am hoping to raise thousands of pounds for the Golden Hat Foundation and wouldn’t it be even better if I could sell some of your books and give all of the money straight to the Golden Hat Foundation. Thank you once again for supporting our community because I have a friend who knows what it is like to have an autistic child and I am sure nobody like yourself would want to see your own children without speech. I cannot congratulate you enough on this and I hope your book is very successful.
    Bethany X

  60. I would love to read this book, the greatest thing about it is that it hasn’t just come from any old author it has come from an amazing actress if only we had more actors and actresses raising awarenesss of different things like Autism. Kate you are truly a great person to try and make a change to people’s lives with Autism.
I would love to have a chance to read this book.
To be honest I think you should give out more than 20 not so we all have a better chance at winning won but to raise more awareness of Autism because some people would not be able to afford to buy one book. I hope this book is very successful and I hope I will get one because I cannot afford to buy a copy of it myself.
Lets all make a change to people’s lives with Autism!

  61. I remember seeing the documentary on HBO, and was taken aback by the film, and Kate’s performance. Later, I began to interact with a family friend’s son who is autistic. It was then that I truly realized the impact of what Kate was accomplishing with her efforts! Would love an autographed copy of the book! And also, a sincere thank you to Kate Winslet… Honestly, I’ve always been a fan, but this is just another example of what an incredible woman she is!

  62. I work with children with brain damage, so this would be a great present to show them!!

  63. Congratulations! This is a spectacular way to bring attention to autism and the many appearances of it. Kate Winslet narrated the Icelandic film the Sunshine boy, an excellent documentary about a family´s search for finding a way to help their son communicate and express himself. The film was inspiring, not only for us Icelanders but also to the world. Thank you Kate Winslet, Keli and Margret for this wonderful idea and book to raise awareness on autism. Greetings from Iceland.

  64. The world needs to be educated: awareness of autism is an important task because most people know too little. When a great actress like Kate Winslet lends her voice and her heart to make this happen you have the star power behind the campaign. I´ve seen the book and love Keli´s Golden Hat poem and the amazing photos. A signed copy from Miss Winslet – YES!

  65. Please continue to support and educate the public about autism

  66. BEAUTY HEALS SOUL NOW THE BRAINS…LOVE IT !

  67. I want one :)

  68. I cannot wait to purchase this book. Thank you to Kate Winslet and anybody that wants to further autism awareness. I also want to see “Sunshine boy” I am weeping because I can hear my son’s voice but it isn’t enough. I want him to be able to speak spontaneously and tell us how he is feeling. I want to know my son. I want every parent to know and hear their child. I want to find the cause and the cure.

  69. I am thrilled that Kate Winslet has joined our crusade!

  70. Wow! This would be a great addition to our auction. Northwest Autism Center is a small non-profit in eastern Washington. We serve approximate 1100 families in eastern Washington but also have many families through the United States who have contacted us for information and resources. Each spring we hold a Evening of Art and Auction to help support our cause. A signed copy of “The golden Hat: Talking Back to Autism would be a huge seller at our auction. Please consider support our work with the donation of a signed book. thank you!

  71. Love this idea! My boy was diagnosed the day before he turned two. He was completely non-verbal and I was “prepped” by his doctors to prepared myself that he may never speak. I refused to accept that… Now he hardly shuts up! And I LOVE IT! So many people said to me, ‘Oh wait! Once he starts talking, you’ll be begging him to be quiet.’ Not once have I ever thought that. Every word out of his mouth is a miracle. My close friends tell me they think of my boy and me whenever they get ready to tell their children to be quiet… and they stop themselves and recognize the gift they receive every time their children have something to say!

  72. Kate Winslet is such an inspiring woman! I am looking forward to reading this book because one of my best friends is autistic and it’s great to see that Kate and friends are causing awareness for autism.
I love Kate and I’d do anything to win a signed copy! Thank you!
    -Erika

  89. I would be thrilled to have this!

  90. The autism spectrum seems to me to be one of the most prevalent yet ignored afflictions in America today. One out of every 110 children born in the US are on the autism spectrum. What IS causing it? Why aren’t research dollars pouring in to find out. This is a national emergency that is being ignored.

  91. Thanks!

  93. 153. Hello There!

While I was out shopping, I managed to come across Ms. Winslet on the copy of the “Ladies Home Journal” magazine, and naturally, being a fan of her work, I bought a copy. When I read the article, I was amazed, not only by the story, but by Ms. Winslet’s strong dedication to the cause to helping those with autism, particularly children. I believe that this will be an outstanding book to help parents and for those without children to spread awareness. Though, it would be an unforgettable once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to win a signed copy from Ms. Winslet, I will most definitely purchase a copy no matter what happens. Thank you and good luck to the Golden Hat Foundation!

  154. My favorite part of this project is that Kate Winslet saw a need for something to change and did something about it. She isn’t a celebrity affected by autism in her family. She just saw a need and did something. She has donated time and energy to this foundation in her very busy schedule. Not wrote a check or just said something about it.

  155. Ijust loved the documentary. This is such a great cause. We just need to spread the awareness. I am sure this book will be another great resource. I can’t wait to read it!

  156. I just spent 4 days with my 10 years old autistic brother. I am 15 years older so I wasn´t home when we figured out he was growing up on his own way. We didn´t really know each other before I decided that I should take him on a road trip these 4 days he was staying in the city with me. We experienced a lot of things. Símon was sometimes happy, sometimes mad at me. But me too, I was sometimes happy, and sometimes in a bad mood. I realized we weren´t that different. We just use different means to express our feelings. Anyway, I am ready to spend more time with him now and keeping showing him the diversity of the world we life in. The book would be a nice way for me to know my brother even better =)

  157. Kate is the most adorable woman I have heard of..Not just that, but good hearted, warm and intellgent woman: now she is join the treasure club with my sister in law, Margrét. Aftur she jumped on the carousel of adventure for my little nephew Kela she has turned this beautiful journey to a big home of hope or maybe “hope of a home” for the most special people..

  158. I love Kate! I really want a book! Fantastic idea!

  159. This sounds like a must-read book for all!

  160. Kate Winslet is amazing in whatever she undertakes.

  161. I having been living front line ASD for 17 years & had a rough day today, took my NT son to get his haircut, swiped a magazine off the rack to settle in for 5mins of peace & opened to YOUR article…I had goosebumps…exactly what I needed today…I have founded “Inspiring Hearts for Autism” 10 yrs ago & have been striving DAILY to open resource/treatment center in our area b/c currently there is NOTHING available…our website is http://www.hearts4autism.org THANK YOU for being a voice for Autism…we are a grassroots org passionately committed to making a difference & REFUSE to give up despite our financial obstacles…God bless your endeavors! I will glow with you!

  162. I think Kate Winslet is an amazing, talented person and I think this was a wonderful project that she involved herself in.

  163. Not only are you a beautiful an talented artist you have a beautiful heart to reach out to others in need of knowledge and help. I WOULD BE BLESSED TO RECIEVE A COPY OFF YOUR BOOK.

  167. After purchasing Kate Winslet’s Golden Hat blush and lipstick I returned home and saw the advertisement in Ladies Home Journal about the book with the same name and knew I needed to have this book even if I dont win it….my daughter and granddaughter are both involved with autistic children and this would benefit them I am sure. We also have many children in our church and have a wonderful woman who has started a club within the church whereby the children learn to do many things, including making their own garden and then eating what they grow, doing crafts and playing boardgames and just learning how to get along with other people.

Kate Winslet is doing an amazing job and she is one of my most favorite actresses. Blessings to you Kate for your work.

  168. I would love a copy of your book. My step-son is autistic and I am always looking for more information. I believe that this book would help me better understand his condition and how to help him.

  169. Kate Winslet brings an enlightened perspective on autism.

  170. Would love to have a copy of this book. Just the few pictures printed in LHJ were very appealing and made me want to see more. I’m sure it will be a great success for the Autistic Foundation as a fundraiser. Thank you for giving us a chance to get a free copy.

  171. I plan to read this book (but would love an autographed copy) as my oldest grandson has been diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome. I am a mental health professional and have 35 years experience in working with patients from children to adults, but I find it exceedinly difficult to be with my grandson. That is hard for me to say, but it is true. I read alot about Autisum Spectrum individuals but nothing realing helps. I’ll keep reading.

I’m so happy to see a star of Ms Winslets caliber bring attention to this very important cause and these wonderful individuals.

  212. Everytime I see anything about Autism I am really excited to read it. My 5 yr old Grandson has atuism. He is the most presious child. He struggles a lot, when I read this article it gave me some hope for him. I want to read this book. I try to keep up on anything that relates to Autism. That you Kate for your help.

  213. This is such a fantastic project! The fact Kate Winslet convinced her friends and fellow A-listers like Leonardo DiCaprio, Gwyneth Paltrow, Justin Timberlake, etc to participate by snapping self portraits wearing Winslet’s signature stylish and favorite fedora to raise awareness for Autism is brilliant. The quotes and photos are a great concept for a charity book.

  214. This is a great project! I have a 5 year old son who is nonverbal. We know he understands everything and is very smart. He has the sweetest smile and loves people! My son has been diagnosed with autism, apraxia and a chromosomal deletion. We are hoping that a cure will eventually come, but in the meantime are looking for new ways to help him communicate. 216. It was wonderful to find out about this book this morning. I saw her on live with Kelly how great to support these children. I have a precious nephew who has stolen my heart. He just turned 10 and non verbal. He does try and sometimes still surprises all. So much hardships still in this area. I still see him doing great things. There is a purely wonderful spirit within. His parents and all who are part of his life are proud to know and love him. Can’t wait to read this book. We need more representation in your world. Thank you, I’m sure this would be a wonderful present to put a rainbow in their future.

  217. Kate Winslet is a marvelously beautiful person inside and out. Thanks to her for using the gifts of her life to make a positive difference and spread this inspiring message. May we all be more like her.

  218. I am an advocate for autism research as well as helping children with autism live happy and healthy lives. I had the opportunity to work for a year at a neurorehabilitation facility, in the school and spent most of my time with children that had autism. They are such truly unique and special people. When you can get to the point that they ask for something without hitting and get happy because they did it right, or when they ask for a hug, something very rare, it is the most rewarding thing in your life. I thank you for standing beside such an important thing. Really thank you!

  219. I have worked with individuals with intellectual and physical challenges for 25 years, or should I say all my life since I have family with challenges, but I was not raised to see that, we are all the same and we all complete things differenly, learn differently, it is who we are. I was taken aback when entering the field, just felt like I went back in time, we need more people like Kate to support individuals with these challenges and maybe this field won’t be the first to take cuts and be able to move forward.

  220. I would love to have a copy of this book.Kate is my favorite actress and her support of individuals with autism shows her heart is big as her talent.

  221. My son Zach is non-verbal with autism. We learn new things together all the time & it’s refreshing to see a light being shown on autism in this way. For the lack of verbal communication that Zach has he makes up for in his actions. He is a sweet, loving & tender child. Thank you Kate for taking the time to shed light on this difficult situation that so many families deal with day to day. We love our children whether they verbally speak or not, but the hope of every parent with a non-verbal child is that you will hear that sweet voice chattering away one day!

  222. Being the lead Kindergarten Teacher in an
Inclusive classroom gave me the privilege
of working with Autism. My career with these
young children helped form the best part of
my soul. I learned more from each child and
their unique coping systems. I valued forming
a personal and working relationship individually.
Retired, I self reflect with gratitude for gaining
the best communication skills while empowering
these children to accept themselves as well as others.

He has now progressed so much, and is social, involved in sports, boy scouts, and loves to talk and tell us stories. He is such an inspiration to me, and to everyone who meets him. His mother is also an inspiration as she has taken something negative and turned it into something for others to learn from she works at the South Carolina statehouse with the autism society, and has helped passed laws to benefit autism awareness in schools and in society.

  228. I would greatly enjoy having a copy of this book,to learn from the points of view of different families within the spectrum. I have a 13yr. old son with mild autism. He was diagnosed at 3yrs. old, the past 10 yrs have been such a fascinating journey. Doctors told us he would be non-verbal. I will never forget his first words, at about 6yrs. old, he went to the fridge and said, “Momma, I want eggs.”

My daughter is 13 and i thank god every day for her because she is very compassionate and patient with his quirky ways! Most teenagers would be embarrased. I am very blessed. 248. I love the name of the book “The Golden Hat”. Hats allow us to express something of who we are – something unique and special. I am the grandmother of a precious 3 year old girl. I so long to know her thoughts, those things about her that make her the one of a kind child she is. I am hosting an event in September for single moms called Hats in the Garden to help fund a local community center that provides daytime respite for them and their small children. I’d love to share this book as part of the our auction at the event to help underwrite the program next year and to bring attention to the need for inclusion for autistic children.

  290. Having a son recently diagnosed as PDD / NOS -Aspergers, I would love to have, read and share this book with others. The journey to the diagnosis had been a war in our home that has finally ended. Now, moving forward with treatment seems to be an uphill climb, especially when struggling with a husband who has been fighting every step of the way. Now with the diagnosis, I don’t have to feel like I’m crazy or seeing things that aren’t there. Anything that I can use to further educate myself and my husband, the easier the climb may be.

  291. With so much autism, I’m glad to see it getting more attention.

  292. contest entry

  293. Autism is a devastating but fascinating subject. Glad to see it getting more recognition.

  294. As the mother of an autistic son, I get excited about any effort to inform and educate those who do not live with this on a daily basis. Most ways our family would seem just like everyone else’s. However, there are ways that we differ that others just do not understand, no matter how good their intentions. There cannot be enough education.

  304. My son’s birthday is June 11. He will be 22. He has autism. Society likes to ostracize children with autism, but a lot of love and understanding can go a long way. I don’t look at autism as a disease or handicap. In the right environment a person with autism can sometimes do remarkable things and even stand out in some areas like math and music! With just the right encouragement miracles can happen not just for a child with autism but for any child. I would like every human being to lead a happy, successful life! Acceptance goes a long way! A signed copy of Kate Winslet’s “The Golden Hat” would mean so much to me to help not only my son but others with autism! God bless and thank you so, so much! Kerry…We are in this together on planet Earth!

  343. I would love to read this and learn more about autism I am an older student majoring in sociology!

  344. This is such a wonderful cause. The word needs to be spread, and taken seriously by the people of this world. These kids deserve a voice, and it is beautiful when someone with such passion and power speaks up for them. I think this most noble for people who have a far-reaching voice that goes across many parts of this world to stand up and fight for people who need us most. I admire Kate Winslet and the other people who have worked hard to bring awareness of autism.

  345. I would love a copy of Kate’s book!

  346. This is such a worthy cause. Autism is so misunderstood and mis-handled, even in this time of scientific advancement. I am so glad that Kate Winslet is standing up for the cause. I would love to support this cause as well, and hope very much to win this book.

  363. What a wonderful cause this book is supporting! I have been a fan of Kate’s since early childhood (when Titanic came out of course) and receiving this book would be a great addition to my Leo&Kate collectables. Unfortunately, saving for a wedding has put me and my fiance on an expense hold so I was waiting for a moment when I could afford a little extra something, like this book (especially when it’s one that gives BACK!). Maybe I won’t have to wait!? =)

  364. I’d love to win a copy

  365. How wonderful that LHJ is doing this. I would love being one to receive the book;but good luck to everyone who enters.

  366. The author is a great reason to want this book. The book with the author’s autograph is even more of a reason, the cause is greater, but it’s the people who are affected by the disease make the book worth owning. Any insight into the unknown is a great thing, and experience is insight. I would be honored to recieve a copy.

  385. Such GREATNESS.. GOD BLESS the HEARTS..;-))

  386. I would love a copy!

  387. I was blessed with 3 perfect children and one perfect child with a physical deformity. While this is nothing like autism, I can empathize with other parents who have children, who are not “perfect” in society’s eyes.

All children are perfect in a parent’s eyes. It is exciting to see a celebrity bring attention to autism. Too many people do not understand autism and are fearful of people who are autistic.

Thank you Kate, for your book and your message. I’m sure there are many more like me who are grateful for this book.

    Lisa

  388. Love that she came out with this book!!!

  389. I work for a non-profit that assists children with disabilities in procuring respite, and adults with day services as well as employment services. I think this book would be a great resource for our company. As someone who loves language, I cannot imagine what daily life is like for someone who struggles to communicate. We take for granted our own abilities until faced with someone lacking them.

  390. I would love to have a copy of this book!!

  391. i haver two autistic nephews and this would be so great to read and learn more than i have already.maybe some new insight into autism thank for this chance.

  395. This book would be a wonderful, inspiring book for my best friend. She teaches autistic children at a school in Maryland. Some days are wonderful and some days are hard, but she always has wonderful things to say about the kids. She always goes beyond the call of duty to do things for the kids to make them feel special. I know she would appreciate this book. I plan to get it for her as a gift, but an autographed book would be a beautiful touch. Thank you!

  396. So good to see them give back in such a positive way.

  397. After seeing Kate on Good Morning America, I was thrilled to see a selfless act to bring awareness to autism. She texted her cirle of friends (George Clooney, Johnny Depp, etc.) and even people she wasn’t close to, but they were more than willing to be a part of the project. Autism is still widely misunderstood, and to bring this level of interest is a beautiful thing. I would be proud to own the book.

  398. I would love to win a copy of this book! As a student majoring in Special Education, this book could provide me with a new perspective!

  399. I have a young friend that has twin boys, both of whom have autism. I would like a copy to give to her as a gift for all of her patience, tireless understanding and tenacity in dealing with all the setbacks, heartaches and small steps forward. All with a smile on her face and love in her arms. She is special and I’ve always told her, God knew you could handle the job! Thank you!

  400. I finally got my daughter diagnosed with Autism. We had known for a very long time but just couldn’t get a professional to see it. She is in the middle of the ASD. She has her good days and her bad days. I am very happy to hear that Kate Winslet is an advocate of Autism. I have been following her movies she her very first one. It is good to see more celeb’s speak out on the behalf of Autistic persons.

  406. I have a nephew who suffers with Autism and it has been difficult but he has made wonderful progress. I wish we could understand oit better and to catch it early and educate people better to handle it.

  407. I would so appreciate receiving a copy of this book. It looks to be very insightful as well as informative. And, who just love Kate Winslet.

  408. I heard an interview by Kate Winslate about the book. I think bringing to light that no child should be given up on regardless of their disability, that all children are special and are their own person is the most incredible message the book can convey. I believe that tapping into how any person can best express themself is a life lesson learned. I praise first and foremost this boy’s mother for always believing in him and NEVER giving up, the boy who found his voice, Kate for being so touched that she brought the story to life and to all the people who contributed to the making of this incredible book.

  409. This book has been on my wish list. An awesome cause & Kate is my favorite actress!!

  410. I would love this book to help me read about this wonderful cause. I love Kate!!!

  411. Tito Rajarshi Mukhopadhyay is a severely autistic young man. He has been writing stories since before he was eight years old. He has written books which give hope for autistic children and adults.

When Tito was eleven he wrote Beyond the Silence. He also wrote poems in his book The Mind Tree. I just finished reading his book, The Gold of the Sunbeams.

Tito’s accomplishments demonstrates to people that he is not locked inside himself. Tito is able to communicate with the outside world in impressive ways.

The Golden Hat Foundation is helping to increase autism awareness. Hat’s off to Kate Winslet and all the other amazing people advocating for the inclusion and education of autistic children.

Life is a brief, mysterious–GIFT. Every child is a gift. Our health is the true gold of this life. The words we write and speak–and the actions we take, toward EVERYONE, should be GOLDEN.

    Best Wishes,

    Cynthia Gimbrone

  417. A lot of people, myself included, would benefit from this book. I have recently discovered that someone very important to me is autistic and it has changed my life. I don’t know the first thing about autism so this book would help me greatly. Even if I don’t get the free copy I will go purchase it anyway. I just wanted to express how important it is to educate oneself about autism. I hope the people that do get the free copies take advantage of its knowledge and information.

  423. I have always loved Kate Winslet as an actress, but I was unaware of her book, and I imagine I would love this as well. My little brother has Asperger’s Syndrome, and I am a Music Therapy major, so I am familiar with the Autism. I hope one day to work with Autistic children in a therapeutic setting, and I can imagine that this book would be beneficial!

  429. Kate is a sincere ambassador, not only for Lancome, but has used her celebrity status to bring awareness to autism. Just by the picture on the front of the book, you can tell that she is spearheading this campaign not to earn further celebrity status, but because she truly cares. Her touch is so real and her eye so empathetic that one would believe everything bit of information she has to share. I would be honored to win a copy of this book and would further awareness of autism on my blog. In fact, I plan to post about her book after reading this page. Thank you for the opportunity to win, what an amazing gift.

  430. My daughter-in-law has a brother that has autism and would like to win it for her. He is a very wonderful boy.

  431. It’s so inspiring to see such a beautiful woman discuss a topic like autism in a way that will educate others and bring light to the world of disabilities. It’s so important that people learn to give people with disabilities respect and love, and this is a great way to bring attention to a great cause.

  432. So many children are diagnosed with Autism each year and so many of us still don’t know much about it.As a mother of three children,I would love the opportunity to receive this book in order to learn more about it,what opportunities there are to help those with autism and to incorporate my children in learning about it and helping as well.

He also like Legos…He wants to come and see me because in Florida we have Lego Land. I would love to have Kate’s book and see what her insights are about Autistic children. 445. Love her! Would love to own the book.

  446. I had no idea Kate Winslet had an autistic child. I can’t wait read her story.

  447. For several years, I’ve lived across the street from a set of identical Autistic twin boys. I love Austin and Tyler and I know that they love me in return. But, I want to share with the public how these two created their own language while growing up! Everyone knows how small children crawl/toddle around making noises and/or saying the small words they have learned. Austin and Tyler chat with each other everyday in their “language” which I can only describe as “baby talk”. And from observation, they understand each other and react to what each one is saying. It’s remarkable and fascinating! A side note here: they know English and can speak using it. But they always revert to their own special language while talking with each other…

  448. Would be honored to be one of the lucky ones to receive this gift.

  449. I have always loved Kate and thought of her as someone that I can look up to/ my idol and that she will always make amazing movies. :)

  450. I have been a big Kate Winslet fan for most of my life. Her choice of film roles is always evolving, and she never seems to cast herself into one mold, which is pretty refreshing.

I learned of this book a few weeks ago in a magazine, and I think it will be an interesting read. With celebrities and activism, there is always a sort of extremism involved on the celebrity’s end, but I feel like this book will be more relaxed, and relies on the opinions of more than just one person on the topic of Autism.

I have not had experience with Austitic kids until the past two years, when I met my boyfriend’s neice and nephew. They both have Aspergers, but I don’t find it difficult to associate with them, and I treat them like adults rather than kids, and it seems to open them up a little more.

I am most interested to read this because I believe it will have a better message than other celebrity books, and hopefully it will do a lot for Autisic kids in public schools who are taught separately from other students.

  451. Would love to win a copy of this book, sounds wonderful!

  483. I’d love a copy of the book, love her so much!

  484. hey! I would love to get this great book! Thanks in advance!

  485. At a time when Autism is finally a topic of discussion, tolerance and understanding, it is very heartwarming that someone like Kate Winslet is utilizing her notariety to bring more light to it! Bravo, Ms. Winslet, bravo!

  486. I have always loved Kate as an actress and now love her even more. I have “inhteracted” with autistic children. Having this book would be wonderful but I will be purchasing it even if I don’t win!

  488. As the mother of an autistic child I would love to win a copy of this book.

  489. This would be so amazing, thank you for the opportunity and thank you for promoting this book!

  490. I is a wonderful endeavour Ms Winslet has take on . A challenge to the rest of us . I too have a nephew with Ausberger and it would be helpful to know more about autism , help understand and share the knowledge.

  491. What a noble cause. I would love to win a signed copy.

  492. My best friend’s brother is autistic & I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned from him. He’s taught me patience, kindness and love :) if I won a copy of this book, I’d read it with him & my best friend!

  493. My oldest son Cameron was diagnose with Aspergers (a form of autism) at the age of 3…He is such a wonderful and spirited child. He has a hard time communicating with people around him (especially his peers) he never stops trying. He is exceptionally smart but socially delayed. He started school early at the age of 3 and now 5 still has trouble making friends. Children at that age don’t have the patience it takes to figure out what he is saying and there are many times he comes home sad or with a frown face in his “daily report” because he has gotten into a scuffle with the other children… On a lighter note he is so smart he can already count to 20 and 10 in Spanish, read, write, and at the moment is a sunflower (which has been alive 3 weeks now). His little brother is his best friend and they both are my world…I would LOVE to win a copy of this book because I really could benefit from what Kate has to say! I’m always trying to learn new things to help Cameron understand him as he grows :)

  494. As the mom of a 3.5 year old little guy with PDD (a form of Autism), I can say that our kids are wonderful the way they are. Also, that Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) are much more common than people realize. This like all other awareness projects are crucial to ensure that all kids and adults with ASD get the help that they need.

  495. I’ve really been wanting to read this book. I work with children who have Autism and I’ve always loved Kate!!

  496. What a fabulous prize for a fabulous cause! I would love to learn more and share the knowledge.

  497. I have been a fan of Kate Winslets for many ears, have admired her strength and the fact that she stands her ground on looking like a real woman. My nephew was diagnosed a few years ago with autism and would be absolutely honored to have this book to surprise my sister in Boston with. As a side note, my son was told he was autistic and I knew that this wasnt the case. I took him for a second opinion and it was a very serious misdiagnosis! Im happy to say he just had a really bad ear infection that was cauing him not to hear how words are pronounced correctly when trying to speak them. Sheesh, I was a little upset but just grateful. Love you Kate!!!!

  499. LOVE HER !!! WISH ME LUCK

  500. Amazing women, would love to have book.

  501. As a mom to a son with autism, and a fan of Kate Winslet, I’d love to win this book! Thank you!

  502. If I won this book, I would give it to my friend who is the Lancome manager at Macy’s in our mall because she has an autistic son, whom she adores, and because she loves Kate Winslet and her wonderful cause for autism. But I may read it first!!

  503. I would love a copy of Kate Winslet’s book because i like that kate is talking about autism awareness.

  504. I am the mother of a son with autism. I m excited to read this book and would love to receive a signed copy. Thank you.

  505. Thanks for the opportunity. The book looks interesting and covers an important issue.

  506. Love her work. Would love this book

  507. The Golden Hat Talking Back to Autism would be a great learning experience for me because I don’t know much about it. If I won this copy I would read it because I’m of fan of Kate Winslet of course. And having a signed copy would be like getting 2 gifts. Good Luck to everyone who enters. Thank you

  508. We have just bejun to understand this condition…society needs more education to become aware, and with the knowledge be able to at least compensate for our own inadequates….

  509. This would be wonderful to have. We teach our children that kids with disability’s are very special. I’d love to own a copy of the book.. What a wonderful cause!

  511. I’m a big fan of Kate Winslets. I just love the fact that she is so dedicated to her child and his autism, this says a lot about this strong women. I would love to read her book. I’m on a budget and right now can’t always afford somethings I’d like, it would be nice to win this book. I would love to read it. I admire her the way I do my mother who has had to take care of my cousin, who does not have autism, but he has Cerebral Palsy and has done so much for him. It would be nice to share the book, I think it nice to see there are others out there fighting the fight also. Keep doing what you do Kate,,We are all behind you and your family.God Bless!!!!

  512. My nephew has Asbergers syndrome, I know his mother has been through a really tough time getting the world around them to understand, herself and other family members as well, what it takes to successfully rear a child who cannot communicate with his peers on a social level. Its been an uphill battle since his birth, education and further understanding when it comes to this particular set of circumstances even on a basic level is detrimental from the start, yet unfortunately it never seems to be the case. A change in societies understanding before its damaging effects make their permanent scars would be an amazing thing to see. Diabetes wasn’t that difficult to accomplish such wide spread understanding of the basics, so it can be done.

  513. I think what Kate is doing is just amazing. I have some friends that are autistic and they are so nice and misunderstood. I’m glad she is helping them ^^

  514. I would love to receive this book. Not only is Kate Winslet one of my idols since Titanic but she is also a great role model. My brother has autism and he is only 14 months younger than me. Which makes me VERY close to him and protective. He has opened my eyes to this spectrum and though I strive for a cure, I cannot imagine my life with my brother NOT autistic. He is my life. I would love to receive a signed copy of Kate’s book

  515. Yes, I would really love a copy! Thank you

  516. What a wonderful idea!

  517. I have always been quite interested in Autism; are there any pros, and rising above the cons. How much have we learned? The breakthroughs, if any?? And, most importantly, what can the average Joe do, to help? Is there anything we can do, above and beyond, the normal monetary gifts. I have such an inquiring mind… And,I cannot tell you just how much it pleases me to know that Ms. Winslet, and other very busy actors, actresses, etc., have taken time out of their, obvious, busy schedules to include autistic peoples, and help provide them a voice!! Hope this will help in inspiring others to put an actual effort (other than monetarily) into helping to solve some of today’s issues, and maybe even some of Today’s problems… Kudos to Kate, and those who joined with her… You give us, ALL, a little more hope, with every gesture of this kind..

  518. I would like to help spread awareness and information about autism.

  519. Kate’s Golden Hat Foundation is going great work! I thank her for spreading awareness and helping raise funds. This is something that is impacting more ppls. live every year. I am an avid reading and look forward to reading her book. Thank you kate.

As an adult who has Asperger Syndrome, I applaud her.

  526. I think it’s wonderful that she did this. Autism is not understood enough in this country and it’s good to see celebrities using their fame to spread a positive message.

  527. My sister has Autism PDD-NOS when she was diagnosed my parents were devastated since Autism was still new and finding info in Spanish was very difficult, that was 12 years ago, now my little sister is a Junior in High School (with a B+ average!!!) and is getting ready to apply to college, she wants to be a special Ed teacher, it has always been her dream to be a teacher and I know she will be able achieve it. I would love to win this and give it to her, however if I do not win, I will buy her a copy, Thank you so much for supporting Kate Winslet in this great cause :)

  538. I have known several people over the years with Autism through my friend who took care of children with Autism, from extreme cases to those less so, and that Kate Winslet is bringing it to light in a possitive way as well as the current Food Network show where one chef is competing for research in that area is truly wonderful – I would love a copy of this book. Thank-you.

  539. I have a niece that has been diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome. Although it isn’t autism, it shares many of the same characteristics. I have a nephew that has been diagnosed Autistic, and an uncle that I am almost certain has Aspergers Syndrome, which is definitely an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The numbers of people diagnosed has doubled in the past 10 years and I’m sure that some of that is due to testing, but I firmly believe that a lot of it is ENVIRONMENTAL. I want to thank Ms. Winslet for her attention to this nightmare for parents. I don’t need the book, so please give a copy to a very deserving individual so that they can see that somebody is on their side!

  540. i doubt i’ll win lol

  541. My son has Aspergers, and any and all information is such a blessing. He was a late diagnosis, and his problems with it are severe. This book looks awesome.

I would love a copy of this book – thank-you! :) PS I didn’t see my other submission, so I resubmitted – if that’s not allowed and you find 2 please disregard 1 thank-you

  546. I love her and would love a copy of her book. I’m a teacher and had a student my first year that was autistic. My good friend’s son has autism and I think that her book looks awesome!! :)

  547. I have a beautiful family that I would love to gift with this book.
God blessed them with a beautiful boy 8 yrs ago. Their beautiful boy has taught all of us so much about life, love, and autism. He is a joy and and his parents are awesome. No wonder God chose them to the parents of this very precious boy! I will get them this book regardless. It would be so
special if I could give them a signed copy in return for sharing their children and love with me.

  548. She is a beautiful and touching woman, and I think her story about autism will be enlightening and moving. I wish her the best, and I look forward to reading the book.

  549. We just had a 5K walk/run for Autism in our City with a wonderful turnout. Several of my friends and co-workers are dealing with Autism in their families and I know the effect it has had on their lives but they are such loving and wonderful parents that their children couldn’t have been placed in better hands. I would love to have the opportunity to present this book to one of them!

  550. Thanking you in advance for the chance to have a copy of a book that will open many dors for those who suffer in a lonely withdrawn world. Also thanks for the chance to educate many who would not have learned more information about those who have Autism.

  576. i would like to have this book

  577. My wonderfully smart beautiful young great grandson has Autism. Such a mystery affliction on some children. They are locked into their world and want to talk to you and we are locked into ours and can’t talk to them even tho we want to so very much. There needs to be so much more awareness about this problem of Autism and it does seem that finally people are paying some attention to it. It is vital to get help for this with therapy before the age of two and it can financially break a family to get help. My granddaughter became a study in any and all ways she could help her child with diet, more homopathic ways to treat illness and ways to detoxify his system, etc. etc. She is magnicent in her role of teacher, mother, student, doctor, etc. for him. I want Kates’ book for her. I want her to know that people do care and more and more people are waking up to the real problem of Autism in our society today. Parents are tired of this being swept under the rug and insurance denying any help to them at all. Thank you Kate!

  578. I just went to an autism benefit for Easter Seals and I am amazed at the help the kids get.

  587. I WOULD LOVE TO WIN A COPY OF KATE’S BOOK!

  588. Hi, would love to win the book.

  589. Having worked with Autistic children for the past 10 years, it amazes me that people don’t recognize the intelligence in these children and the possiblities of growth. All these children need is a lot of love and lots of rewards for a job well done. It is amazing what these two things can make an Autistic child want to accomplish!

  590. I would love to win this book to read.

  591. I am a mother and I find everyday having challenges. I admire the mothers that have to have the supernatural strength and courage to face challenging lifestyles. I would love to read Kate’s book and be able to share her inspiring message! Thank you for this opportunity!

  593. I am so happy to see autism awareness being spotlighted so that more people will have the opportunity to learn and therefore understand autism.

  612. “Kate Winslet is my all time favorite actress. She is classy, beautiful, INCREDIBLY talented, and inspiring. I came in second in the 2012 Titanic’s biggest fan contest and LOVE all her movies, especially The Reader and The Holiday. She is my style icon and her movies always are incredibly moving and full of substance. I love her Lancome line of the Golden Hat products! I also just got back from purchasing ‘Ruby Silk’ Lancome lipstick-which Kate wore on the Titanic 2012 red carpet!-I first heard Kate talk about the Golden Hat foundation on Live with Regis and Kelly. I was so inspired by the story and came to the realization of how hard it would be if I could not tell someone I loved them. Lending her voice to the documentary about autism wasn’t enough. Kate continuously spreads the word about the Golden Hat, which proves that she is not only a lovely inspiration, but also a genuinely WONDERFUL person.-LOVE you Kate! I would be completely OVERJOYED if I won a signed copy of The Golden Hat. Thank you for all that you do! You inspire me to be better while making others stronger!”

One of the girls named Erin, told me that she’d like to find a cure for autism and that she couldn’t stand her life like this. Therefore, she keeps working hard and never gaved up. Erin said she would like to go to F.I.T one day and come out as a successful fashion designer. She is quite a good singer, too. And I really hope there is gonna be a cure for autism.

I am very passionate about Autism Awareness I wish that we as a society would only stop and take notice at how quickly this disease is growing. More awareness will result in more funding for research to help stop the growth and possible treatment of this disease. My nephews are two of the most beautiful, kind, and innocent humans I know. They see the world differently and through them I can see it in a better light. God bless you all for collaborating on this book. Thank you Kate for taking a stand and hopefully opening the eyes of at least a few more people in this world. We all need to help each other’s with our need and people that have special need’s to give them a helping hand. It is important to express how we are different and some people cant help the way they are and we should do are part in love and support them as they go threw problems and let them know they they are not alone

  668. This is great thanks.

  669. Autism awareness is an excellent cause! Kate is my all-time favorite actress and an amazing role model. I adore her, and if she supports this foundation, then so do I.

I babysat a family with two autistic children and one with Asperger’s. They were the most wonderful, imaginative children I have ever met.

  670. I am so excited to see this! What a great cause!!! Thanks, Kate, for bringing more awareness to those dealing with this daily!

  671. would love to win this book. I saw Kate on tv talking about the book it’s sounds like a wonderful book.

  672. Would love a copy :)

  673. As a retired teacher a mom and grandmother of two beautiful children. I am involved in supporting Autism for three main reasons , our growing concerns in the education of all our children especially ones with the broad spectrum of this basically new and confusing Illness in
pandemic perpotions we seem to be facing. i Ive read some books but i notice there not really a complete answer to the puzzling question of why we have so many autistic children. my daughter has a special need little girl Doctors, have not diagnosed Autism but there is a child her age with the high function
spectrum. In my own family there is Autistic tendencies in our niece and in it seems to me no one really knows why some are severe and some are not. Kate is a fine actor and Im inspired by her for getting involved . i would greatly appreciate this book.Tthe more info we know the better.
    thank you,
    Mrs Alina Noval

  674. This is amazing. My company allows customers to give 10% to the charity of their choice. A big piece of my company is charity! I would love this to raffle it off at an MTV movie awards event donating all proceeds to autism charity!

  675. It is amazing to know that attention is being brought to such things as autism. I can’t wait to have this book, whether it be the signed copy or not, it sounds like it is going to be a great book with a great cause and it would be an honor to own the prize one! : )

  676. This book is such a wonderful way to spread awareness. It’s great to see so many celebrities involved with this book. Hats off to Kate Winslet for being proactive about an issue that touched her so much.

  679. I would love to win this book. I have worked with children with Autism and I am always looking for more information and stories of living with Autism.

  680. I am a fourth year Special Education Teacher who works in a school for students with special needs. I teach 10 students with Autism ages 10-13 and I love them all. They are all such great kids and I’m proud of each one of them. It’s an incredible feeling being part of and witnessing every accomplishment made by each student. It gives me enjoy to see the difference I am able to make in the lives of my students and their families.

On another note, I love Kate and her work. She is such an inspiration and great role model. In addition at least two of my students told me they saw Titanic with their families. I asked each student, who are learning to label their feelings and have receptive and expressive language difficulties, how the movie made them feel and they told me it made them feel sad. Labeling feelings is something most of us learn at a early age, but not so for those with Autism. The fact that my students were able to label their feelings and express how they felt after watching the movie was a great accomplishment, something many people would take for granted.

This is a wonderful thing that Kate is doing for children with Autism. I would love to win a copy of Kate’s book and help spread the word of her inspiring message with others.

  681. hello, my daughter is 8 years old she is non verbal she has serere autism they say she is a 8 year old but a 2 year old mentally. i would love to have this book thank you so much for getting the word out about autism. right now we are tring to raise money for her to get a service dog because she has self injury behaviors and sometimes she will pinch or head but me or others that is around her so we are tring to get her a service dog to help her with the tantrums she also tries to excape from people (run away) but i would love to have this book.

  682. Thanks for the giveaway Lancome. Love your products!

  683. I have loved her for many years and would really love this book. :)

  684. My 4-year old son is autistic, and I feel so many times that people do not know/care to understand why he acts differently than others his age (including his twin sister). I worry for his future… Kate is one of my favorite actresses and I can’t wait to get her book! Having a signed copy would be supercool, but either way I will be reading it.

  685. i love to read & would love a chance to read this book & then pass it on or recommend to others, thanx

  693. This is a wonderful book.

  694. First, a HUGE thank you for ALL you represent. Words cannot always express. It would be a fabulous 60th birthday gift I’d cherish. Bless you.
    Respectfully,
    Linda Jenks

  695. This would be an amazing item to have signed by the beautiful Kate Winslet!! :)

  696. Autism is affecting more of our kids. It’s great when folks stop to hear, learn and care that with research w may find a cure.

  697. It’s a very creative way of helping a cause

  698. I absolutely love Kate Winslet, and my brother was said to have autism as a baby, but now it is very mild. I am 16 and I would love to learn more about this subject. I would love this book!

  699. I have Asperger’s and I love Kate!

  700. This is so awesome! Would love a copy of this book. One of my good friends has a child who is autistic. Kate Winslet is such a beautiful person!

  701. Great opportunity, great book, thank you!

  702. People do not really understand what it is like to have a Child with Autism unless it happens to them. Our now 13 year old son suddenly stopped talking at age 18 months, and did not say anything for more then 3 years. It was terrifying!
    Lesli

  703. My wonderful cousin has Autism. I’m more like his aunt because I was 18 when he was born. He truly is the light of my world. I am lucky to know a lot about Autism because of my chosen profession. I have been in the child care since I was 16. This has given me a lot of insight to how his mind works. He is high functioning but it still affects his everyday life and his social relationships. I know that I would love to have the opportunity to read this book and share it with my family because not all of them understand the true beauty of his mind.

  704. My son has been undergoing Birth to Three treatment since he was an infant. No diagnosis yet, but the clinicians have mentioned autism. I am trying to learn as much about it as possible, especially how others are handling/coping with it. My son is the most perfect blessing I could have asked for and I wouldn’t change anything at all. I am interested in reading MS. Winslet’s book very much. Thank you.

  705. As soon as I seen Kate on tv talking about this AMAZING book I went to our local library to put in a request to have this book made available to everyone in our community!! I would be honored to own a signed copy as I am a mother of a 21 year old son who has Autism!! Thank-You for making it possible for all of us to have a chance to win this AWESOME book!! Take Care & GOD BLESS:)

  706. What a wonderful book and excellent way to reach a greater audience. Thanks Kate, her publisher, and everyone involved for taking this issue into a broader audience thus acting as an agent of change. Every single thing we do in this world matters to everyone else. It is wonderful when individuals act to make our world a better one. Many of these autistic children do just that, bring out the better parts of people who never knew they had them. Let’s all join to do our best for these kids. In this way we all become more than before:)

  707. I would really enjoy getting this book. I have a son and nephew who are Autistic and my best friend is currently earning her Masters to help Autistic children. This would make a great gift to her. Autism is something that is very near and dear to our hearts.

  708. I would love to win a copy of this book. What a lovely story. We should all work to make sure that all children have a voice and a chance to make a difference in the world. I have a new found respect for Ms. Winslet. I have always liked her as an actress, and now I love her as a human being, a mom, a force for change.

  709. She’s my favorite actress and I have a brother with Autism, I would love to win this book.

  710. Hi Dear,

I would like a copy of your autograph book please. Me and my family has been doing some charity work for the autism kids here in Malaysia. The beauty of this kids are they can see much more within a humans heart like no other can. A friend of mine has a child just like that somehow that little boy was afraid of a lady who was fully covered from head to toe with black clothes but that little boy did not run to his mommy. He ran to me. It was since than i realize that their are not just an ordinary child. Now with your book published this will help people to give them self a broader mind set of Autism children. Thank you so much Kate.

    Your Sincere Fan,
    Debbie

  711. I am looking forward to reading this :) Good luck to all of us. I know that Ms.Winslet’s book is going to be successful in reaching out to many. I hope that all of us who have posted will purchase regardless if we win or not. I plan on getting one for myself, one for resource center, and one to donate to my county library. Let us all pay this book forward and help Ms.Winslet’s message reach millions of others.

  712. Wow! This is so amazing! She is such an inspirational actress and person. Having worked with children with autism, this would be something amazing to win.

  713. Looking forward to reading this book. She’s always been one of my favorite actresses, now I love her even more!

  714. This would be for my daughter, Katherine. She has admired Kate since she saw Titanic when she was a young girl. Kate is a hero to us.
    Thank you.

  715. Would like to have to give to my mother inlaw for Mothers Day..I know she would enjoy because her son my husband has Aspuerger

  716. Just few days ago, i had my first experience with an autism child. That little boy has never met me before but when when i entered my friends home, he came running to me like as if he knew who was me. Now i am still learning about Autism children but what his father explain to me was if an autism child ran up to you and play with you means you have a good heart. Autism children are gifted in a way that they can see within a human hearts whether good or not. Than his father later explain to me how another friend of him arrived fully clothed from head to toe. Yet his friend believed to be very religious. That young boy was afraid of his father’s friend the moment she walked in that house. This wasn’t the first time. Apparently it has happen many times. Hence the reason why i would like a copy of Kate’s book learning more about autism children. I would like to understand why that child just somehow choose me. Remember that little boy has never met me in his life. Now thanks to you Kate I’ll be able to have a better and much more understanding for this children. I would really love a copy of your signed book.

    Your Sincere Fan,

    Debbie Anne

  717. hopefully, i am lucky today…

  718. My nephew has Aspbergers and while high functioning has a difficult time communicating with family and others, no matter what the situation. I’d love to see him gain a voice. I want him to enjoy parties from within, not from the fringe. He is my baby, only I can call him that. I could not have children yet this little boy bonded with me from birth. So it is with all my heart I would like Autism to be understood on a global level. Like any other issue, it should be treated with respect, not shunned like the kids who carry it like a cloak. The book in most folks hands will be appreciated. An earlier made on 04/25 at 2:59, by Paula about her nephew, struck a chord. Please give her a copy of the book. It will be in good hands, just like her nephew.

  719. Would love to win a copy of this book. We recently adopted our great grandson and we know that he has problems at two years old. We are in the process of having him evaluated but everything is still undetermined. Maybe this book would help shed some light on his (and our) problems. He’s such a beautiful, loving, child. Kate, you are an angel for the work that you do and I wish that there more just like you!!!

  720. Would love to win this for my wife.

  721. As soon as I saw this, it was my new favorite support for the Autism community. For 13 years I have had the honor and privelage to work with all types of people on the spctrum from little children to young adults. They are simply amazing and going to work every day is the bet part of my day!!!

  722. Anytime someone writes a book about their own personal life struggles and/ or triumphs they are letting “you” into their life. I would like to see what it would be like being a leading actress with a family, particularly a son. Being a single mom with a son, although he hasn’t been diagnosed austistic, I could use the inspiration.

  723. She is one the graceful actress’s of our time! Her beauty is timeless!

  724. I’m autistic and can understand the difficulties. I have high functioning autism. Social life’s difficult, but I have to work on everything. I have to have somone teach me what I’m lacking in skill. There’s other difficulties, but I’m not going to list them all.

    I wouldn’t mind having this book. :) I hope I win.

  725. I love KW and love her movies, and it would be an honor and dream to have a signed copy of this wonderful woman of our times! It would be the greatest Mother’s Day gift!!!

  726. Thanks for the giveaway!! I am crossing my fingers on this one!!

  727. Thank you for the opportunity to read this book, if I win. :)

  728. Iwould love a book please.

  729. I would love to be chosen to receive a signed copy of Kate’s book. I have a child dealing with the day to day hurdles of a mental illness. He is an amazing person and although my job is to teach to him, I learn so much from him everyday. He is a blessing to me and this book would be a blessing as well.

  730. I’ve known some wonderful kids and adults on the autism spectrum, and I have a darling grand-nephew with Asperger’s who is responding well to special education. It is so good to see that more public attention is being given to autism, and that there are opportunities for those with it that didn’t exist before. More help and public awareness are needed, though, and I am glad that this book is making the public more aware of the incredible people of all ages with autism. You go Kate!

  731. i would love to win

  732. I wish I could win– otherwise ,,Iwill go purchase the book — I love her and her cause t/u

  733. I would love to win a copy of your book Kate, as Our community doesn’t have much in our library on Autism, and I would like to donate your book to them. I know of several Parents who could really use your knowledge on this subject. We love you and think your an awesome Actress and Mother. God Bless you and your son. Thanks for writing this book!

  734. I would love to win this book! I worked with autistic kids in middle school and in high school instead of taking PE classes. I also worked with deaf kids, which was amazing for me as my parents are also deaf. I recently read about the teachers who bullied an autistic child and joined the child’s foundation.

  735. My daughter teaches pre-school special ed & since most of her classroom is filled with young, precious children diagnosed with Autism, I believe she would love to receive a copy of Kate’s book! She has received many expressions of gratitude from parents because she has helped their children “find their words” to express themselves. As she often states, she “just loves them through it!” Many thanks & Blessings!
    ~Linda A.

  736. I would love to read this book! I read a sample of the book and want to read more!

  737. I would love to get a signed copy. I think the world of Kate – as an actress, but more importantly, as a philanthropist. Kudos, Kate.

  738. Bravo, Kate! Very impressive to use your celebrity for such an important project….I would love to have a signed copy of your book. Even if I don’t win, I will read it.

  739. I want to win.

  740. I would love to read it!

  741. Kate is such a beautiful person inside and out and I am glad that she (along with others) are getting involved for the awareness of autism…

  742. I would love to win this book…a co-worker of mine has a son with autism. Kate was beautiful in the Movie Titanic. She is one great actress.

  743. i would like to win a copy of kates book, she is inspireing/

  744. I’d LOVE to win a copy of Kate’s book ! Thanks for the chance !

  745. Great Book! I would love to win a signed copy. As a teacher who has worked with children who have Autism I can see this book being used as a learning tool for teachers and parent of children who has some form of Autism. Great write and read Kate!

  746. I know nothing about autism and have been blessed with 4 healthy children…I often wondered what those other families were going thru when watching their plight on shows like dateline…I watch their stories with tears in my eyes and my heart is breaking for these brave families…I wonder if I could have a tenth of their courage…this book would be a wonderful introduction for me into the world of autism and the book signed by one of the greatest actresses of our generation would be another blessing!

  747. Our minds protect us they teach us. I believe that, people learn differently and see things maybe others dont see and that when we discover how vast the brain is that there will come a day when we can connect and comunicate in a world where we punished and ridiculed what we did not understand. Autism might just be a form of brilliance. just this here alone is connecting!

  748. i would love to learn more and i really enjoy reading so this will be nice.

  749. I would love to win a copy of this book!

  750. I would love to win a signed copy of this book. My brother is a Special Olympics Athlete and I volunteer and support this cause. I see and have worked with many children/adults having this disorder along with other disabilities. I truly respect Kate Winslet for stepping out and speaking up on this cause since as a celebrity she has a very big “voice”. I love to see celebrities using their “voices” for awesome causes. Thank you Kate :)

  751. I am an Army wife and an Autism mom, and because we all know a lot about how difficult it can be, I thought I would share some things that have worked for us. For behavior: b12 shots, vitamin D, and a gluten/dairy/sugar/dye-free organic diet. For sleep: Epsom salt bath every night and liquid melatonin (sometimes). For digestion: no citrus, pro-biotics daily, apple cider vinegar (helps with reflux). I would recommend everyone try to get ABA, and see if you qualify for respite care. I hope every family out there can remember that you’re not alone, and that nomatter how bad today seems, it won’t last forever.

  752. Love to see people with a voice like Kate Winslet doing good things such as this! I have a young cousin that is Autistic. He has the biggest heart & the funniest sense of humor at times! Would love to win this for his mother. She puts so much effort into making him feel so normal. Great giveaway! To win would be awesome but whoever does congrats in advance!!

  753. Thank you Kate Winslet for helping to spread Autism awareness. My son is 12 years old and on the spectrum. I appreciate Ms. Winslet’s dedication to raising awareness of a cause that is so important to so many people. I would love to win the book and am putting this book on my “must reads” list for this summer.

  754. I have heard some people saying that These “Kinds” of Children just need to be Medicated to deal with… I say they are Greatly Mistaken… These Children just need our FULL Love and Support! It pains me to think of people thinking Children with Any kind of Problem just need Medication… Thank you Kate for your Awesome Inspiration and you are Hollywoods Finest and Most Elite! I just Can’t Thank Celebrities Enough like you whom Fight for a Very Nobile Cause! I LOVE you all for fighting for our Children and Future Children!!!

  755. Hello friends– I would love to win a copy of this book :) Kate is one of my very favorite actresses and Lancome is one of my very favorite brands–I love Tresor In Love! Now I am loving the R.A.R.E. gel that came with free gift–I must have it now :) Anyway–I think it’s wonderful that 2 of my faves are partnered up :)

  756. Fingers crossed

  757. I think that what Kate Winslet is doing for these children is Awesome! What an amazing woman she is to be raising awareness for such an important cause.

  758. Good Morning, when I saw this book written by a very educated & concerned woman, Kate Winslet, to me it peaked my interest right away, yes I do admire her, also she does her homework, I admit I do not carry the knowledge of Autism to speak, amazing to me is recently finding out I have two school friends that have children with Autism, my best friend was scared and very confused, I Prayed for her child and also for the family, then I found this article, I would love to win a copy, I have always believed knowledge is the best weapon, doing research I had no idea how many children there are with Autism, thank you for consideration in winning a copy of a book I can apply the knowledge to help ease some of the stress of my friends, Kate, to me you are a God sent, thank you.

  759. May I please have a copy?

  760. I would love to receive a copy of Ms. Winslets’ book.My great nephew is Autistic and the most amazing child you would ever want to meet. I am hoping that this book might give me an insight to more of my nephew. Even if I don’t win I definately will get some money together somehow to buy it!!This could be my learning tool!

  761. I would love to read this!

  762. would love to have she is a beautiful and selfless

  763. My stepson has this disease. Id love to read this.

  764. This book is an inspiration to all. My children are in a gifted program and several children in the class have autism. Anything toward lifting the stigma that has surrounded this misunderstood condition is a move in a positive direction.

  765. I loved the article about this book.

  766. Kate Winslet’s support for this cause is an excellent example of “star power” being put to use for the greater good. Ms. Winslet is not only an extraordinarily gifted actor, but she is a mom–and you can see her passion for an issue that affects children like these on such a monumental scale. Whether I win a copy or not, thank you, Kate, for all you do!

  767. I would absolutely love to have a copy of this book! :)

  768. I would love a copy of this book to give to my parents. They help a lot of autism families and it would be a great tool for them to use.

  769. Looks fabulous! Would love to win a copy!!!

  770. I would cherish this book: Not only for my Grand Daughter, Imogen Avalon, but also for my Mother, who raised 14 children and taught us never to give up on children :) xxxooo

  771. I would absolutely love to have this book, I will buy it regardless of whether I win a copy…my 21 year old son is graduating from his “specialized school” next month with a specialized high school diploma. We never thought he would talk correctly, walk correctly, or be able to learn the way he has. Diagnosed later than usual..at 9, it took lots of wonderful people and loads of loving patience. But hearing him read for the first time two years ago brought me to tears…thanks to all that support autism awareness…and thanks Kate…you are amazing!

  772. There are so many children and adults on the spectrum. They need t be understood, not bullied.

  773. I would love to have this book.

  774. Thank you so much for this chance. My son has Aspergers and is almost 14yrs old any help would be awesome !!

  775. Oh I love Kate Winslet! I did not even know she was an advocate for learning about Autism. My cousin is Autistic and he’s 17 now (wow!) and honestly I’ve never really known a lot about it. I just know I love him and he’s so smart and wonderful. I would love to read this book! But if I don’t win it, it’s likely I’ll buy it!

  776. I would like to see what this celeb has to say about autism. Other books written by celebs have often times been misleading. As a mother of a 14 year-old autistic child I have become skeptical of much of the popular media regarding the subject of autism awareness and have focused primarily on making my daughter’s life and those of her siblings the best I possibly can. I admire Kate in many ways and am hopeful the book reflects upon what I know of her.

  777. As the mother of two autistic children you have no idea what it would mean to me to win this. I do everything I can to spread awareness and this would forever be a prized possession. Kate Winslet has made a forever fan out of me! I plan to buy it anyway but would treasure a signed copy. Thanks for bringing awareness!

  778. Kate you are a beautiful person for being a voice for autism. My son is diagnosed on the spectrum and he is the most loving wonderful child! Keep up your amazing work!

  779. As an aunt of an autistic nephew, I strive to share and spread awareness to all of my contacts, I would like to read Ms. Winslet’s reflections on Autism.

  780. I would be thankful to win this book!! Both my both were peers in an Autistic classroom and my youngest is still very good friends with one of the boys from the class and what a awesome child he is.. My children learned valuable lessons and we very helpful also!! Thanks Kate for all you are doing it will make a difference and that is why we are here..

  781. I would love a copy of the book. I have an autistic 7 year old son with autism, and hes amazing!!

  782. I really want this book! I think autsim is just aweful! I think something should be done to stop it from happening!

  783. I am a hairdresser and have come across a few autistic children through my years. It wasnt until my cousin Scott and his wife Lisa gave birth to a child with some health issues, did I take notice. After some years of many health issues was Konner diagnosed with Autism. I have to say I’m sure Konor is trying at times….I find him to be a true, honest, loving and an amazing personality at such a young age! Plus he loves the Steelers! This is really funny because his father and whole family is die hard Packer fans!!!!

  784. My daughter is autistic. I LOVE that Kate is doing this to raise money for an autistic charity. Even if I didn’t win, I’d buy this book to help donate more money to it. She’s a classy lady.

  785. Golden hats off to Ms. Winslet and her friends for their efforts in raising awareness and for the creation of this book!

  786. Thanks for being such a great advocate.

  787. Thank you for the chance to win this book! xo

  802. Kate Winslet is a role model and this book is inspirational when it comes to children with autism. I’ve only come across a few children that were have autism but to me, their a blessing. I think people have the wrong impression when it comes to autism and how to deal with children that have it. 866. I would love to win a copy of Kate Winslet’s book. I have an 8-year-old son who is Autistic, and I understand the daily struggles these children (and their caregivers) face every day. However, I also know the rewards of having an Autistic child far outweigh the trials and tribulations. My son is a joy and a blessing – others may see him as a challenge and a bother, but those are the people who do not take the time to get to know the wonderful, beautiful soul lying inside. He melts my heart daily – he is affectionate, kind and loving. He has been my saving grace from the day he was born prematurely and every day from then on. He has opened my eyes to a world I never saw, and every day I learn something new from him. Although I would love to win the contest, I will still purchase the book even if I am not a winner. Her book means a lot to my family and to all families facing Autism – I am glad someone has spoken for these children…perhaps they will finally be heard.

  892. I would love to get a hold on this book!

  893. Ladies Home Journal,

How exciting about Kate Winslet book! I have admired her like the rest of us here. This is a project she took on with passion and faith.
I had run my own daycare for 8 years and watched an autistic little boy from 4 months to 4 years old. When I decided to go back to work outside the home his mother was just devasted. I was the only one besides her who had the understanding to get through the day with the young boy. The funny thing here is it never bothered me to take care of him. He was a happy go lucky boy. He played just like everyone else did, except I would be saying his name more than anyone elses name! The others didn’t know he couldn’t color in the lines, or sit still in a classroom. He played with his dump truck, or legos just like the rest and wasn’t treated any different. It was a great atmosphere for him.
He did have an older sister by 4 years who was my sons age. (I happen to watch his sister from 10months old to 3rd grade.) My son had the majority of his friends at my house and in his classroom that I watched!) The daycare ran pretty smoothly most of the time and I was very grateful.
Garrets mother was upset because the two daycares she went to after me didn’t (couldn’t) care for him like I did. (I had my heart on my sleeve for him and his family and the rest of the children I watch.) His mom worked in the grocery business like my husband did. Her husband worked on his familys farm and this was very physical as was her job. She spent everyday off with her kids and took time off for special functions for her kids. I admired his mother a lot for being close, concerned and involved. With school he graduated from “public high school.” His mom made life as normal as possible. I do believe she learned a lot to have him enegrated to the so called “norm.”lifestyle. He is now drivig as of the last time I stopped to visit him! I am extremly proud of him and for graduating! I wonder what “god” has in store for him in the future!
Thank you for letting me share a little bit about my friend Garret.

  894. I Love Kate Winslet. She IS so BEAUTIFUL and Real.
    SHe Is my Favorite Actress.

  895. It Is very important to raise awareness! I would love to have a copy of this book, and share my thoughts on it.

  897. Would really like a copy of the book.

  898. It would be wonderful to receive a copy of Kate’s book!

  899. I would be grateful if I had the chance to win this book . I think it would open my eyes more broadly as to how I see thing and I can pass the knowledge onto others with the same disease .

  900. The best thing we can all do in life, is be educated on the things that matter to us, and to create awareness when we are passionate about something. I would like to win this book for my friend Tammy, whose son is Autistic. I run a needy organization in Detroit, and our constant mission is to assist people in need, whatever that need may be. Tammy has shown to be a strong, educated, loving, knowledgeable, and aware mother. She is constantly reading, researching, and still creates a great equal mix in her family life, which not only includes an autistic son, but also a daughter and a husband. Tammy is a prime example of how to deal with the disease, and make the family happy and working. She is amaxing in my eyes :) Please let me win the book so I can give it to her.

  901. I have been a huge fan of Kate’s since Circle of Friend’s, and have always admired her talent, beauty and her self worth/awareness. Kudos to Kate for bringing Autisim to light.

  902. I’d love to win a copy of the book :)

  903. I am a school bases counselor soi work with students who gave primarily aspergers and they face daily struggles in the school system. The biggest obstacle is often the ignorance of the adults that they come in contact with on a daily basis! People don’t realize that autism is a spectrum so every child on the spectrum exhibits different but maybe similar symptoms.mthanks so much Kate Winslet for bringing attention to this diagnosis that can tear families apart.

    Linda Richards

  904. I love Kate Winslet.
I have a friend who’s son is autistic. This would help her. She’s having a hard time with this.

If I win a copy of the book, it will be donated to my church for one of our ministries: Exceptional Moms, which is led by 2 of my EXCEPTIONAL FRIENDS, who both have children on the Autism spectrum.

  914. I’d love to win a copy!

  915. I would love a copy. My son has aspergers syndrome, which is a mild form of Autism. Now at 25 years old, he took himself off his meds due to him focusing way to much at work. He is a manager where he works. I believe that is a huge acomplishment for someone who maintains without a drugs. He also builds computers, is a gamer, and is taking exams for A+ certifications.

I am so proud of him :) :)

Thank You for your time to read this

    Sincerely,
    Elizabeth Van Vorous

  916. I have met a few people with autism. One close friend has a nephew who has Aspergers. I know they were very frustrated until the correct diagnosis was made.
I think it is most important that we are able to share that we love someone. That one thing is often nearly impossible for persons with autism to convey.
I must congratualte Kate that she can convey that emotion without saying one word. I would be honored to have a copy of her book.

  917. I am so exited for this book and it would be the coolest thing in the world to win one!!!

  918. Love Ms. Winslet and I can’t wait for her book to some out!
