On August 18th, The Hunger Games comes to DVD, meaning we can finally watch Katniss (played by Jennifer Lawrence) shoot arrows, climb trees and just be generally awesome as much as we want. So what if The Hunger Games is based on a book for young adults? We know we weren’t the only ones clamoring to catch up on the series before the movie was released in March. The next movie based on the second book, Catching Fire, isn’t due in theaters until November 2013, so in the meantime you can watch the special features on The Hunger Games DVD including three hours of behind-the-scenes footage and featurettes on the making of the film. Enjoyed the movie a lot! Didn’t read the books but enjoyed the plot and acting. I love that Katniss learned how to use the bow from an Olympic champion!

My students at school tried to get me to read this series a couple years ago. I thought “this is a teen book, not for me”. Well, I finally read it this summer and was hooked! I read all 3 in short order and can’t wait now to see the movie. I hope the odds ARE in my favor!

I resisted reading the trilogy for months…I promised my girl I would so I couldn’t let her down. I NEVER expected that I wouldn’t be able to put it down…I even had to borrow the last book in the middle of my daughter reading it!!!

I did not get a chance to see the movie in the theater and would love to win it. There are not enough movies with a strong female lead, without being sexualized, and this one features a good role model for young women. Most of the movies with female leads are mostly violence or sex based.

Dreaded taking my 13 year old son to see the movie, had only heard it was about a fight to the death with teenagers. Absolutely feel in love with the movie and bought the book series before we came home that day. My son and I fought over who was reading which book next. I quickly read all the books in the series before seeing the movie. I was really blown away. I was amazed that someone like myself( in the youth of old age)would enjoy them so much. You have heard a lot of perfectly good reasons, but i can say confidently that I am one of the biggest fans of the Hunger Games. I read all the books and absolutly loved them, when the movie came out I was sooooo excited. I saw the movie at noon on opening day then later that same day, then again twice with different friends each time. I’ve read all the books and watched the movie in theaters and absolutely loved both mediums. I have to say as an avid reader, this series really makes you wonder where we are heading as a race. I loved the strong female lead and how she isn’t like all the other love-sick/crazed characters I tend to come across.

I’ve always loved utopia-dystopia themed books. Throw in a strong female protagonist, awesome characters, and a chilling plot? Yes please! 8D The movie, while not perfect, is still pretty awesome and I love seeing the visuals and actors bring the story to life. The hold list for the movie at the library is well over 100 people, and I’m not surprised in the least.

I firmly believe as with most books made into movies, that reading the book gives you the history and back round of the story and characters. The Hunger Games was a well written and interesting look in to the futuristic version of the world. If you didn’t read the book before the movie…you really missed out! Could not put down any of the three…have to purchase them as I finished the next…GREAT BOOKS…GREAT MOVIE…can’t wait for the next!

What a movie to remind us that when it comes down to making a choice of taking anothers life we as humans are pushed to the most indepth of emotions possible, I could not have done the movie. I loved all the books. I couldn’t put them down. I read them long before the movies. Then got to see the movie and love that too. Can’t wait for the next one. I would love to have the new DVD so I can watch the movie over and over again. =)

My grandson was so absorbed in the Hunger Game books (literally could not put them down)last spring, that I had to buy them for myself. Yes, it’s for young adults, but clean and unsuggestive enough for a 4th grader to read. I look forward to seeing the DVD at some time and comparing it to the book. It might be great to read/watch with my fifth grade students.For adults who’d like more Hunger Game type books: look at S.M. Stirling’s “Dies the Fire”. Great series!

My daughter’s Saturday school class read the book and I wanted to read it along with her–it was great! At the end of her class, the whole group went to see the movie the opening weekend. My son and I went to see it with the group. The movie was great as well. We all loved it and can’t wait for the next one Catching Fire.

This was an amazing story of perseverance, dedication, and morality. As a teacher, I liked this book as it teaches children about life, innocent love and common sense while also being entertaining. Would like to have the DVD as the book was great.

Although I think the concept for this movie is just awful, I was amazed. The characters were compelling, the story fast moving, kept my attention and it is one of those movies you need to see again and again.
