The holidays are one of the best times to hit the movie theater—doesn’t relaxing at the movies sound perfect after a big family meal? And it’s so much easier to avoid the Friday and Saturday night crowds if you have some time off of work. Luckily, there are some great films coming out this season including Les Miserables, This is 40, and Jessica Biel’s new movie, Playing for Keeps (check out our In My Words Q&A with her in the December 2012/January 2013 issue!).

To help put you in the holiday movie-watching spirit, we’re giving away five sets of two Fandango movie tickets. All you have to do to enter is leave a comment on this blog post. Happy holidays! (Only one entry per person and per email address.)

I’m a Movie Buff, love going to the movies. My sister and myself. Go at least 2 to 4 times a month. Of course that depends on what has arrived at the theaters. We are a little fussy Just saw Clint Eastwood in The Curve. A great movie. Looking forward to several more during the holidays.

I sure enjoy LHJ because of the great recipies and the wonderful articles and stories. My husband Steve and I love to go to the movies but due to recent financial hardship due to me having to have open heart surgery and not being able to work our budget has been compromised. I am on disability because of a kidney transplant 6 years ago but have to work to make ends meet. My husband works so hard to keep us afloat, we have been married 36 years and he has always been there through all my health issues and raising 2 wonderful kids. He just said yesterday he wish he could take me to the show, I told him I understand that times will get better and then we can go out and have fun. During the holidays it can be great to escape the madness and get away from it all by going to a movie. It’s nice getting off your feet and being transported somewhere else.

I have read LHJ since my Mom bought it when I was
very young(I’m now 58). I really love Can this Marriage Be Saved? I would always read it while waiting for the doctor in my hospital gown, and he

I have been to the movie theatre twice in the last 5 or 6 years- I saw the Hunger Games last spring with my sister Wendy. The first was the first Twilight movie with my sister Carla. I still have another sister-Diane, or I could go with my mother !!! Being disabled, I don’t get out much….but I LOVE the movies !!!

Hello! I read LHJ for the first time in my doctors’ office; what a read! It was so full of good info I need! It’s just myself and my 16-year old daughter; we recently(finally) got into a HUD building. We both receive SSI, she has Asperger’s Syndrome, Deppression, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, ADHD & Anxiety. I have COPD w/ Asthma, and stage one Lung Cancer. Our life however is full and rich! We do everything together & she keeps me young, (I’m 55- I had her when I was 40!)! We have alot of Love. We could really use these tickets as movies allow us to escape our problems for just a little while! Thanks! Jennifer Snider-Gartin

My family has a tradition of going to the movies on Christmas Day. It’s a perfect day to go because there’s always some excellent movies that open on Christmas Day. I remember seeing Titanic on Christmas on its opening day. It sure would be nice to have a couple free tickets to cut down on costs. I love movies. One of the good things about reaching ‘senior citizen’ status is the discounts offered by many businesses including movie theaters! Just wish the concessions could have a similar discount price or ‘senior sizing’! Sign me up for the movie passes! This time of year is a time to reflect upon the things that matter and that we cherish. When I was a kid it was family tradition to go to the movies on Christmas Eve At Radio City Music Hall in NYC. The tradition has continued with my own family. My daughter is 29 and we still get together as a family on Christmas Eve to go to the movies. Unfortunately it’s not at Radio City because long ago they stopped showing movies. Being foster parents, we have several children living at home, and often get children right during the holiday season. We cannot afford to go to the movies very often. This would be a nice treat to be able to treat a couple of our kids to the movies. Moerry Christmas!

I love the movies ever since I remember going to the spanish movies with my mom. I rwmember sitting there amazed, loving every mintue of it I remember my mom laughing so loud .My mother loved the movies we were so poor but when we went to the movies it was like you were there not a worry in the world. Now I take my grandson with me we try to see every movie we can. Sometimes I will tell my grandson Noah wait to see it on dvd he wii say it’s not as exciting and I know what he means.

My husband and I have 6 sons, 5 daughters-in-law and 6 grandchildren between us and the holidays can get crazy with them trying to see all the parents and grandparents. We do not insist on them visiting on Christmas Day to help with their schedules so years ago we started going to a movie on Christmas Day. We would love to win the free tickets. I have just retired and this will be my first Christmas not having to deal with a work schedule. My husband is a teacher and will be on Christmas break. There are so many good movies out there this holiday season. We are retired and hate spending money for non-essentials. To win movie tickets would be awesome. My husband deserves a movie night more than anyone else that I can think of in my life. You see, I’m quite ill. In fact, he married me despite the fact that I’m sick. He works 2 full-time jobs AND cares for me. The money is tight, so we don’t get many opportunities to go out for dinner or to the movies. Love the movies……we just celebrated 50 years of marriage — way back then, we went to the movies twice a week at least. These days it’s harder; prices are higher and as seniors we’re on a fixed budget. Winning tickets would be super!

I have been dying to see Les Miserables, especially since I found out how they did the music for the movie. There is so much more emotion in the singing….Anne Hathaway’s “I Dreamed A Dream” almost makes me cry just watching the commercial.
