Bite into Twilight

twilight_eclipse_fan_art1I may not be a “tween,” but that didn’t mean that I wasn’t above waiting in line with them (in their “Team Jacob” and “Team Edward” t-shirts) last week to see the next Twilight movie, Eclipse. I’ll admit it—I’m a fan. I read all of the books, and although the movies haven’t quite met my expectations, I anxiously anticipate each new release hoping that they’re going to impress.

Ahem, without delving too deep into what this late teen vampire obsession might mean for me, let me tell you what I’m excited about: ingenious Twilight recipes to hold over any fanatic until she can see Edward (or Jacob) on the silver screen again.

Check out Gina Meyers’ new book, Love at First Bite: The Unofficial Twilight Cookbook, and cook your family “Edward’s Cornflake Chicken,” or “Jacob Black’s Grilled Cheese” before heading out to the theatre! Even LHJ has its own Twilight inspired recipe! Check out our Vampire Soup.

Happy cooking, and go “Team Edward!”

Summer Wine Guide

Masi-Masianco-lgSummer is officially here! Translation: BBQs, picnics and beach weekends. And  who doesn’t love to get together with close friends? We all do of course; it can be intimidating, however, when the time comes to pick the wine to compliment your party. Summer lends itself to light, crisp and refreshing wines, but what goes best with the food you’re serving?

The good news is that  you can’t go wrong. Your friends love you and will love anything you give them. The better news is that we’ve put together a list of some fun wines that are perfect as gifts or for guests this summer. My favorite is the 2008 Masianco Pinot Grigio and Verduzzo ($17.95); take a look at the rest of our fave wines on The Dish page on lhj.com, and see some recipe ideas for food pairings.

Father’s Day Finds for Dads who Love Food!

June 10, 2010 at 9:28 am , by

My dad loves to grill, but he already has a basic tool set for his barbecue. Luckily, there is a whole wide world of fun options for the dad that loves to cook! Here are a few of my finds [Spoiler Alert Mr. Nelson!]:

This elusive gift is one my dad has actually asked for, but I have never been ableimage to find: the Charcoal Companion Ultimate Nonstick Fish-Grilling Basket with Removable Handle, available on Amazon.com. My dad was always frustrated with the fact that he couldn’t close his grill while using typical fish-grilling baskets because their handles were always hanging out – the removable handle on this one is genius.

image[4]This Williams-Sonoma Stainless Steel Smoker Box is pretty wizardly. With the Smoker Box, dad can change the grill out back into a mean, lean, smoking machine.

Dad can make the perfectly golden crispy fried chicken he loves right image[2]at home with this do-it-yourself fried chicken kit designed by famous chef, Thomas Keller: Thomas Keller Ad Hoc Fried Chicken Kit from Williams-Sonoma

image[3]Harry & David’s gift boxes are full of delicious treats that are perfect to have out during a BBQ, and the 4th of July is right around the corner! My favorite is the 19th Hole Wine Collection, and I think my dad will love it. Check out the other options on the Harry & David website.

You can’t go wrong with any one of these items for your culinary dad…Happy Father’s Day!
