If you’ve opened up your Internet browser at all this week, you probably already know that Emma Stone has been straight up killing it while promoting her latest film, The Amazing Spiderman 2. While we love all of her recent red carpet looks, the vintage-inspired curls and pastel blue eyeshadow Emma rocked in Germany had us completely smitten.
To create Emma’s soft, brushed out tendrils, start by creating a deep side part in your hair and wrapping small sections around a 1-inch curling wand (we love this one by Enzo Milano). You’ll want to wrap these curls in towards your face, even though the motion feels a bit counter-intuitive. When you release the curl, hold the rolled hair in place with your finger and pin it (you can pick up inexpensive curl clamps at your local beauty supply store, or here at Sally Beauty). Work though each layer of your hair until you reach the top, where your final curls should stop about two or three inches from your part. Give the curls about 15-20 minutes to cool completely before you begin to unravel them. After you’ve removed all of the pins, flip your head over and gently run your fingers through your hair. If you still see more coils than you do soft, conjoining waves, run a soft-bristled brush through your hair. Slide a bobby pin above the arch of your eyebrow (depending on which side of your part contains more hair) to secure the look. Set with a light-medium hold hairspray.
If you love Emma’s pastel blue eyeshadow, we’ll show you how to rock a similar look here!

The always-lovely Kate Mara was looking fierce at the Transcendance movie premiere in Los Angeles late last week. Her ombre-dipped hair was pulled back into a soft, slightly undone updo showing off her gorgeous smoky eye makeup. We’ll show you how to get her look using Bobbi Brown’s Smokey Warm Eye Palette.
Begin by smoothing on your favorite primer and foundation and swipe a coral blush from the apples of your cheeks up toward your temples — try CORALista by Benefit Cosmetics. Begin by swiping a deep chocolate liner across your lash line. Next, dust your entire lid with the Ivory base, and then swipe the medium-brown matte shadow (third square in from the left) from the inner corner of your lid upward and outward towards your brow bone, creating a muted cat-eye effect. Next dip your brush into the deepest, shimmery chocolate brown shade (second in from the right) and press the shadow between your lash line and your crease. Re-swipe the inner third of your lid with the medium-brown shadow and blend it toward the darker color. Re-line your eyes for added definition, adding some of the deep chocolate liner to the outer corner of your bottom lid and along the inside in your waterline. Swipe a q-tip along your bottom lash line to get a more smudgey feel. Finish the look by dusting the shimmery rose-gold shadow (third in from the right) along your tear duct in a slight “V” shape. Swipe on a few coats of brown mascara, top and bottom, and a shimmery salmon lipstick (we recommend Ulta Lip Butter in Vienna), and you’re good to go!

How far would you go to help out a bestie? On the hilarious new sitcom, Playing House, Emma (Jessica St. Clair) ditches her high-powered career to help her childhood friend Maggie (Lennon Parham), who has a baby on the way. We talked to the two actresses (who are also executive producers and co-writers) about their inspiration behind this LOL show.
Jessica St. Clair: Lennon and I are actually real-life best friends. We met 12 years ago doing the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in New York City. There were very few women there. We were the only ones in sweater sets.
Lennon Parham: All of our ideas inevitably start with us sitting in my living room binge watching Oprah’s Favorites. Plus, we’ve never seen a sitcom where two female friends come together at a turning point in their lives.
St. Clair: We get ourselves in the most ridiculous scenarios on the show, just like we do in real life. Like we’ll be in a high-powered Hollywood meeting and there will be a bowl of sea salt caramels on the table. Lennon will say, ‘Oh, I’m going to eat one!’ And then her crown will come off her tooth in the middle of the meeting. I’m like, “Who puts a sea-salt caramel in their mouth during a high-powered Hollywood meeting!”
Parnham: If you have a best friend, they’re the ones who really know you. This show is kind of a love letter to those friendships. It’s like Thelma and Louise, Beaches, and Fried Green Tomatoes.
St. Clair: Only on our show, nobody dies.

Glee songstress Naya Rivera looked bright-eyed and beautiful at a party in West Hollywood earlier this week. Her fuss-free blown back hair (a 90’s trend that is making a big comeback) gave way to her stunning eye makeup and glowing complexion.
One thing that makes Naya’s almond-shaped eyes stand out even more than usual is the subtle trace of purple eyeshadow you see around the inner corners of her eyes. To get a similar look, we recommend smoothing on a layer of your favorite foundation, followed by a peach blush (we love Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Peach Satin). Dust an illuminating highlighter down the bridge of your nose and over your cheekbones for some additional glow and definition. To start your eye makeup, we recommend using an eyeshadow stick to coat your lid (try Laura Mercier Caviar Stick in Amethyst), and then dusting a powder eyeshadow on the inner third part of your lid (try Urban Decay Cosmetics Eye Shadow in AC/DC). Follow by tracing a thin line along your top and bottom lashes, smudging it a bit with your finger or a q-tip (for a dramatic look like Naya’s, line your upper and lower waterlines with the same black liner). Finish by swiping on a nude lip gloss and a few coats of mascara.

Sarah Paulson’s beachy bob with subtle ombre stole the stage (er, red carpet) at the 2014 PaleyFest last weekend. The American Horror Story star recently ditched the bleach blond look that kept our eyes peeled all season during Coven (if you were watching through your fingers, we don’t blame you) and opted for the warm brunette shade you see here.
We’re obsessed with Sarah’s hair color, which seamlessly transitions from a deep mahogany to luscious caramel, while the face-framing waves soften her strong jawline and high cheekbones. She kept her makeup sweet and simple, opting for barely-there mascara and a bold, shiny watermelon lip. For a similar lip color, try Tarte Power Pigment lip tint in Sheer Watermelon. The subtle stain is great for layering, so you can decide how bold you want your color to be, and the hydrating formula leaves your lips feeling natural, not heavy with product.
If you’re considering a short cut, check out this video to figure out which hairstyles work best with your face shape!

As it turns out, orange isn’t only the new black; it’s also the new red — as we see here on Pretty Little Liars starlet, Shay Mitchell, in New York City earlier this month. We’ve seen a lot of comfy-progressive fashion trends popping up this spring that we’re ecstatic about, such as slip-on-sneakers and kitten heels taking the place of ever-present strappy sandals and stilettos. But just because things have taken a more casual turn in the wardrobe department doesn’t mean that you have to shy away from your bold beauty tendencies.
The electric orange lips that dominated the spring runways inspired a welcomed break in the classic nude, pink, and red lips that we typically see on the red carpet. Shay’s coral-orange shade is the perfect way to ease into the trend, because the hue still carries some pink pigment. To create a similar look, we recommend using Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Lipstick in Vibrant Mandarin. Take another beauty cue from Shay and go easy on your eyes and cheeks — an otherwise low-key aesthetic will help you pull off this daunting beauty trend without looking like you’re trying too hard. We’ll show you how to apply such a bold lipstick color in this step-by-step video!

Throwback Thursday strikes again on the red carpet with Sophie Turner’s 90’s-inspired deep side swoop (trendy braid, included) at the Game Of Thrones premiere in New York City. We’ve been seeing a lot of 90’s hair-spo lately, like these minimalist ponytails from the Kate Spade runway at NYFW and Jennifer Lawrence’s sweptback hairstyle at the Oscar’s earlier this month. Sophie kept her look sleek by creating a distinguished side part and pulling the right side into a tight French braid behind her ear, letting the rest of her shiny red locks flow over her shoulder.
Another trend Sophie’s playing with here is bold, colorful eyeliner. The emerald green shade she’s wearing compliments her red hair tremendously, and definitely earns her some points for beauty bravado. Colorful makeup is fun, and way less daunting then you think! We’ll show you how to play up your own eyes with bright makeup here.
