Summer to Fall: Wardrobe Must-Haves To Buy Now

July 11, 2013 at 11:55 am , by

Enjoy the beach while you can! Soon enough we’ll be heading back to school and the office. If you’re a busy woman who wears many hats (of course you are), you likely need a wardrobe that can effortlessly go from work to play and season to season. Who has time to change out a closet four times a year?! I’ve gathered some grown-up pieces that can also work at a soccer game, pot-luck dinner, or conference.

Here are the five wardrobe essentials every woman needs going into fall.

Peplum Top: This trend isn’t going anywhere, and the feminine silhouette is a great addition to your closet. Your basic black pant or pencil skirt will seem fresh again with this fresh top. I like this one from J.Crew.
Cardigan:  We can thank Michelle Obama for this trend. The cardi is a terrific alternative to a blazer. Pair it with summery dresses and you’ll get a few more weeks out of your lightweight dresses as the weather gets cooler. Worn with jeans and a great necklace your cardi is also ready for a night out. A good bet is this Chevron Stripe from LOFT.
Fit and Flare Dress:  You can’t get much easier than a well-cut dress. This figure-flattering style works on every shape, and it’s an effortless way to look polished. Try this one from Land’s End (up to size 16).
Pencil Skirt: This shapely design has been a hit (again) since Mad Men came on the scene—and you don’t have to be a skinny minny to wear it! Pencil skirts look especially great on curvy girls. When you’re shopping for a skirt that will work in all four seasons, opt for a bold floral print like this one from Vince Camuto.
Oxford shoes: Slip them on with a slim pantsuit and you’re office-ready. Or pair them with a swingy skirt for brunch to look casual chic. Try this pair from HushPuppies.
Building a wardrobe is all about adding pieces that can multi-task and can have life in multiple seasons. These five additions will serve you well through the end of summer and beyond.

Make It Work

July 10, 2013 at 8:00 am , by

We’re halfway through summer, and, boy, is it hot. As much as we wish we could  lounge by the pool all day, we still have to go to work. Bring summer fun into the office with this easy ensemble. The classic pencil skirt gets a nautical-inspired update with this chic navy-and-white wrap version from Madewell. Pair it with a bright pink sleeveless blouse and you’re sure to stay cool. (Is the A.C. blasting in your workplace? Ditch your usual cardigan for a soft patterned scarf, which doubles as a shawl when you get cold.) Every working woman needs a fashionable yet functional bag, like this leather satchel, to tote her essentials to and from work. Slip on some Toms for your commute but step into these raffia-trimmed metallic sandals as soon as you arrive at the office. They’ll add a little edge to your look while the platforms make them easy to walk in.

Summertime (and the Dressin’ is Easy)

July 3, 2013 at 8:45 am , by

Every summer morning I wake up with the best of outfit intentions. I imagine myself in a breezy ensemble strolling the streets with an iced coffee, a canvas bag full of farmers’ market goods, and my guy on my arm. Then, I promptly reach for cut-offs and a tee and head to the grocery store. In an attempt to reform my uber-casual summer weekend ways I’ve been incorporating maxi dresses into my wardrobe. They are quick, stylish, and basically a full outfit in one garment. The key is to stick to a style that has a nipped in waist to give you shape. I love the patterned number above–it’s effortless chic to the letter–and you get extra credit for cool-girl accessories like a fedora and circle scarf.

Wedding season is in full swing and that means you need a dress. Not just any dress–mind you–a dress that can transition easily from a day or early evening ceremony to a rocking all night party fest. Done and done. This little strapless number is quite the eye-catcher and with party-worthy metallic accessories it’s a fool-proof wedding season pick. This frock could even work for a beach wedding with some embellished sandals. Ah, our styling work here is done.

The limited-time-only collection includes more than 50 products, from home goods to clothing to accessories, which will benefit Feeding America and fight hunger in the U.S. Each product displays the number of meals that will be donated to children and families through Feeding America when purchased.

You can bet we have our eye on this comfy and totally cute red fleece zip-up (above). At just $25, each fleece’s purchase provides 20 meals to Americans in need. Cream of the Crop

Crop tops aren’t just for 20-something festival-goers anymore. They’ve been all over the runways this year, and, believe it or not, you can wear them, too! The key to pulling one off is to keep the rest of your look simple and refined. If you’re going to play peekaboo with your tummy, be sure to cover your cleavage. This knitted crochet crop top does the trick. Pair it with a high-waisted knee-length pencil skirt, like this gorgeous floral one from Zara, so only a sliver of your stomach shows through. The look is super flirty, yet still classy and totally on-trend. Change up your accessories to take your outfit from day to night. A versatile crossbody bag and flat sandals are perfect for daytime, while gold spiked bracelets, a hot pink clutch, and strappy high heels give you just enough edge for a night on the town.
