Three Beauty Trends We Can’t Wait to Try This Fall

August 22, 2013 at 8:00 am , by

As sad as we are to see summer go, we are so ready to start incorporating fall looks into our beauty routine. Check out our three fave of-the-moment styles from Fashion Week 2013—and try out the fun trends for yourself!

1. Metallic Nails

Metallics are huge for fall, and nail polish is no exception. Shiny gold, silver, or bronze nail polish is a great way to transition your look between seasons. We like OPI’s iridescent shade “Peace & Love & OPI” (beyondpolish.com, $7). For more must-have nail polish colors, click here.

2. A Luminous Glow

We’ve seen the dewey look time and time again, but this season it’s all about a luminous glow. Get the look with a slightly shimmery cream highlighter, such as this cult classic from Nars. After putting on blush, gently blend the highlighter across the tops of your cheeks to really make your cheekbones pop. Need more help? See how to highlight and contour your face with this easy step-by-step video.

3. Blue Eyeshadow

If you couldn’t tell by the first two images, blue-lined lids are a major do this fall. We promise you won’t look like you’re stuck in the ’80s! The key is to focus on just the lower lash line (like this model did) or just the upper lash line (as shown above). Go with a bold cobalt liner or an icy blue cream shadow. Keep the rest of your look super simple: no bright blush and definitely no lipstick. Swipe on clear mascara, and you’re good to go.

Insider Makeup Secrets With Armani’s Tim Quinn

Have you seen the new September issue? It’s full of fun beauty tricks, especially our Beauty Lessons story. (Think of it as a back-to-school primer for grown-ups.) To get beauty director, Erica Metzger, and myself ready for the shoot, we enlisted the help of the fabulous Tim Quinn, Armani Beauty’s celebrity makeup artist, whose handiwork you can watch, above.

Lucky for you, Erica and I didn’t hog all the advice Tim gave us that day.

Tim’s Tip: Before applying foundation start with eye makeup, since it tends to be messy. This saves you from applying–and reapplying–foundation, concealer, etc.

I love, love, love navy eyeshadows for fall. Try L’Oreal Paris Studio Secrets Color Smokes Eyeshadow in Cobalt Smokes.

Tim’s tip: Mix eye cream in with your concealer to keep the area really hydrated.

There’s nothing richer than Neutrogena’s Ageless Intensives Deep Wrinkle Eye Cream, but it also sinks right in. (Important when using moisturizing products near your eyes for daytime; you don’t want your mascara to smear!

Tim’s tip: When using a lip pencil, stick to one shade that matches your lips instead of buying multiple pencils to match each lipstick.

Fill your entire lips with pencil, then top with lipstick. I think the plummy Rouge d’Armani shade #603 is the most to-die-for lip color this fall.
