As sad as we are to see summer go, we are so ready to start incorporating fall looks into our beauty routine. Check out our three fave of-the-moment styles from Fashion Week 2013—and try out the fun trends for yourself!
Metallics are huge for fall, and nail polish is no exception. Shiny gold, silver, or bronze nail polish is a great way to transition your look between seasons. We like OPI’s iridescent shade “Peace & Love & OPI” (beyondpolish.com, $7). For more must-have nail polish colors, click here.
2. A Luminous Glow
We’ve seen the dewey look time and time again, but this season it’s all about a luminous glow. Get the look with a slightly shimmery cream highlighter, such as this cult classic from Nars. After putting on blush, gently blend the highlighter across the tops of your cheeks to really make your cheekbones pop. Need more help? See how to highlight and contour your face with this easy step-by-step video.
3. Blue Eyeshadow
If you couldn’t tell by the first two images, blue-lined lids are a major do this fall. We promise you won’t look like you’re stuck in the ’80s! The key is to focus on just the lower lash line (like this model did) or just the upper lash line (as shown above). Go with a bold cobalt liner or an icy blue cream shadow. Keep the rest of your look super simple: no bright blush and definitely no lipstick. Swipe on clear mascara, and you’re good to go.

Here’s my beauty take on fashion week. You spend a lot of the time appreciating interesting, yet unrealistic trends. On occasion, you fall hard for a few amazing looks (and immediately try them out the next day). And once in a while, the only appropriate response is to scratch your head and say, “huh?”.
I’m experiencing a combination of all three reactions from Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. show. I love the crisp, winged eyeliner shape that M.A.C. makeup pro Donald Simrock created. (Personally I’ll try it in navy or black, but I appreciate his fun, splashy palette. The rest of the makeup is soft and neutral so it works.)
With all the bare shoulders and exposed necklines, one may argue that smooth, glowing skin counts as another bona fide beauty look for spring. (Here’s where I start scratching my head–isn’t moisturized skin a given?) But then again, don’t you love the idea that applying a great lotion (the L.A.M.B. models used Vaseline Sheer Infusion) can make you feel prettier and on-trend?
