Oscar 2013: Best Fashion and Academy Award’s Moments

February 25, 2013 at 10:41 am , by

So I am not going to lie I was a bit under-whelmed by the fashion last night. I mean, one of my favorite dresses was Jamie Foxx’s daughter, random yes? One big trend on the red carpet was metallics. Naomi Watt’s Armani Privé silver-sequined, cut-out dress was one of my favorites. I thought it was modern, unique, and she looked gorgeous–as usual. Nominee Jessica Chastain shined in bronze. Chicago stars, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renee Zellweger both went for gold and Jennifer Hudson chose a metallic blue Roberto Cavalli gown.

Another one of my favorite looks was Stacy Keibler. I just loved her Gatsby look with the deco Naeem Khan dress and soft wavy hair. Halle Berry rocked it out in Versace–it was a very sexy, Dynasty moment. Yes those were shoulder pads and yes she can really make anything look hot! Nicole Kidman looked stunning in her L’Wren Scott black and gold dress, as did Amanda Seyfried in her gold leaf embellished McQueen. Sandra Bullock’s Elle Saab crystal embellished black gown and Adele’s performance dress both twinkled.

Other things I noticed:
- The backwards necklace will be a HUGE trend and don’t you just love Jennifer Lawrence?
- The complete lack of makeup. Thank you Adele for wearing lipstick.
- Sandra Bullock’s bedazzled blue tooth hair piece.
- George Clooney’s sexy Santa look.
- Salma Hayek and Norah Jones sporting unfortunate old-lady updos.
- Kristen Stewart’s mood, which I later realized might have something to do with the fact that she walked on stage with a sprained ankle, but could the girl at least appear like she wants to be there?
- Those sound editors‘ creepy long hair. Very Game of Thrones/Lord of the Rings.
- Charlize Theron. She is so stunning it’s hard to look at her! And she can dance too! I am pretty sure she is from a different planet. That is how you rock a pixie!!
So, tell me your thoughts? Who were your favorites???

Golden Globes Fashion Wrap Up

January 14, 2013 at 11:26 am , by

The Golden Globe Awards were last night and the Hollywood Foreign Press passed out awards to Argo, Homeland, Les Misérables, and Girls. But who really cares who wins! It’s all about the fashion right? I mean aren’t awards shows all about judging stars for their fashion choices while you are in your pajamas eating Oreos? Here are my thoughts:

The Hot Colors

Red was huge. Claire Danes, Jennifer Lawrence, Zooey Deschanel, and Jennifer Garner all wore different shades of the hot color. Sex appeal was everywhere. Angelina legs were popping out all over (see Heidi Klum and Eva Longoria) and neutral-colored, body revealing, see-through numbers were also a hit (see JLo and Kerry Washington).

Major Vs

It seems you can’t talk about award show dresses with out discussing breasts. Who showed them, who didn’t, who picked a dress that made theirs look horrible (Yes Halle Berry I’m talking to you!) V-neck dresses were worn by big winners including Jessica Chastain in her mint colored Calvin Klein frock and Clare Danes–who I can’t believe had a baby less than a month ago. Also Julia Roberts, in another plunging dress, was a nice surprise. She looks better than ever!

While we are discussing boobs…  Jennifer Lawrence fell on a lot of people’s best dressed list but not mine. Sorry her dress was begging for a Madonna cone bra reference. Am I alone?

While we are discussing sex appeal, I am loving newly single Amy Poehler’s sexy looks! You go girl with your age-appropriate cleavage! I also loved all of Tina Fey’s dress choices. These two did an awesome job. I hope they host again next year. If not can these 2 host?

Fresh and Modern

Does Marion Cotillard ever look bad? Her asymmetrical hem Dior dress was perfect and refreshing. So was her simple beauty: hair down, minimal makeup. (No makeup seemed to be a huge trend. Loved it on Marion but others were begging for some lipstick-  Yes I am looking at you Sienna Miller!) Marion looked so modern whereas Lena Dunham in Zac Posen, (I LOVE Lena and was thrilled to see her win) was the opposite. For someone whose writing is fresh and edgy her look was just not. Plus, girl, didn’t you learn at your senior prom, always pick comfortable shoes. No one wants to limp the whole night, especially George Clooney present.

Less Is More and More Can Be More Too!

I liked Emily Blunt’s and Kristen Wiig’s cut-out dresses.  I am, however, on the fence about Kate Hudson’s McQueen keyhole dress. She looked beautiful but the gold collar was a bit much. I also liked stars that donned long sleeve numbers. Julianne Moore  in Tom Ford, Naomi Watts in Zac Posen and the always glowing Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka, made excellent gown choices! Modesty in general works, as seen in Michelle Dockery’s gold and white gown. The Brits are so classy!

Worst Dressed, In My Opinion

A tie between Lucy Liu (was that a Laura Ashley bedspread?) and Giuliana Rancic (too much was going on).

So what are your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree?

Cold Weather Accessories: Fashion meets Function

November 9, 2012 at 11:49 am , by

We have already seen the temperature drop and some snow fall here in NYC (among other insane weather patterns happening recently). Now is the time to run out and grab any winter essentials you might need before it gets any colder. The most important thing for me is that these items are not only functional (ie. keep me from freezing to death) but also fashionable (I mean, it is my job). Here are my function meets fashion picks!

Coats: I have never owned a puffy coat which is weird seeing that I lived on the east coast my whole life. Whenever I tried to wear one I always felt like a Oompa Loompa. But I recently checked out this Uniqlo one and I love how it’s cut a bit thinner and not as bulky. Classic wool coats are always wonderful options too. Toggle coats like this one at Madewell seem to be popular this season. J. Crew, not surprisingly, has some fantastic options as well. I like this blush colored stadium coat.

Boots: Cute, cold weather boots are  hard to find. Especially if you want something warm, classic, and understated (not clunky or overly furry). I am eying these uniquely-cool looking Sorel boots. These will be perfect to get me around the city on wintery days yet won’t look like I am wearing straight-up snow boots all day. To me these are a perfect mix of fashion meets function. My coworker was rocking these Ugg boot yesterday which is another great boot option!

Accessories: When it comes to hats, scarves, and gloves I can’t have enough. My go-to resources for all these items is Echo. They’re affordable, available at departments stores and online, and have such a wide selection of classic and fun items. Gap always has a great selection as well. Techy gloves are a genius idea that we covered years ago but they’re still around and obviously popular so you can communicate and not get frostbite. Another big trend is fur. I say go for faux for ethical or financial reasons. I like these wraps from Restoration Hardware (random, I know, but how cute!) I’m also digging this faux-fur headband from American Eagle. Both will have you looking glamorous and warm.

And don’t forget to go through your old winter items and donate them to people in need!
