Now this is something to flip over. Jeff Lewis, star of Bravo’s cult reality hit, Flipping Out, is launching his own home design collection on QVC this February. On the popular series, we’ve watched Jeff rehab and sell high-end Los Angeles digs, come to grips with the bursting of the housing bubble (he now does home design) and berate and belittle his staff. Still, it’s hard not to love Jeff for his wicked sense of humor and keen design sense. The chic, affordable line (which ranges in price from $40 to $190) includes bedding, lamps, rugs and accent pieces. “Every one of those products is in my house,” Lewis told Susan Pocharski, our entertainment editor. “I can’t sell something if I don’t believe in it.”
What’s the best deal in your collection?
“A set of three glass hurricane lamps for $55. If you walked into William Sonoma Home, a similar lamp would cost $55 each. I’ve always been conscious of the buck.”
Do you have a favorite piece from the line?
“The geometric accent bench with criss-crossed chrome legs ($129.63). I have three in my house and it’s the first thing I’m going to sell on QVC. I hope they allow alcohol on the set. I won’t be going on QVC until 10 pm and if you know me at all, I start drinking at 5.”
So what’s an easy and affordable way for someone to change the look of a room?
“Rugs, artwork, and bed linens. I just bought a rug and a black and white photograph for my office and it looks like a new room.”
Any hints about the next season of Flipping Out?
“The staff is the same as last year. And we’re going to have a couple new people come on board. I still haven’t spoken to Ryan Brown [his ex business partner whom he had a falling out with last season]. He’s moving to Santa Barbara and I’m really happy. Right now he lives so close to me I get nervous I’ll bump into him every time I walk my dog.”
Have you made a New Year’s resolution to be nicer to your employees like Zoila the housekeeper?
“No, no, no. My resolutions were to lose 10 pounds and go to the gym more. I chose totally narcissistic things. Isn’t that what you’d expect from me?”
