1. Liu Xiaobo Wins Nobel Peace Prize

Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo won the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize today, in recognition of “his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China.” Liu, 54, is a literary critic, political essayist and democracy advocate who is currently serving an 11-year prison sentence on subversion charges. It’s a strong statement from the Norwegian Nobel committee against China’s authoritarian government, though they stated Beijing should be commended for raising hundreds of millions of people out of poverty. Here’s a slideshow of Liu, so you can get to know him better.

2. AARRgh!

After a 9-year-old budding pirate wrote Johnny Depp asking for help planning a mutiny against her teachers, the actor showed up at her London school in full Jack Sparrow garb.

3. Do You Own Jeans from This Company?
Clothing giant Gap unveiled a new logo on its website this week, causing an uproar from fans. To put it simply, it was universally reviled. Now, it’s turned into a crowd sourcing experiment: anyone can submit a logo design to the company. Here’s what Gap posted on its Facebook page:

“Thanks for everyone’s input on the new logo! We’ve had the same logo for 20+ years, and this is just one of the things we’re changing. We know this logo created a lot of buzz and we’re thrilled to see passionate debates unfolding! So much so we’re asking you to share your designs. We love our version, but we’d like to see other ideas. Stay tuned for details in the next few days on this crowd sourcing project.”

4. Stiller and Meara Join Internet
Ben Stiller decided to take a break from working in front of the camera to produce and direct a pet project: putting his parents “on Internet,” as his father terms it. There are three episodes of the web series Stiller & Meara up so far, and Gerry and Anne are hilarious discussing Lady Gaga and Jersey Shore. He’s such a good son, that Ben.
