It girl Lily Collins consistently impresses us with her style both on and off the red carpet. The slick half-up, half-down hairstyle she sported at The Mortal Instruments premiere is an easy way to look super chic in the summer heat.
Starting with wet hair, create a deep side part. (This style also works with no part and the hair pushed back.) Comb your hair all the way through, making sure it’s smooth. Then section off half of your hair from above the ear back to the crown of the head and apply a generous amount of hair gel to just these strands. Use a small elastic band to secure this section of hair in a half ponytail. Finish with a spritz of medium-hold hairspray. Let your hair air-dry; use a flat iron to straighten any frizzy pieces. Pair your new ‘do with berry-red lips for a sleek and sophisticated date-night look.
And how could we forget those brows? Lily’s thick, full arches remind us of Audrey Hepburn—a major do. Get impeccably groomed eyebrows like hers in just a few simple steps. Check out our how-to guide here.

How absolutely stunning is Kerry Washington at this red carpet event? We’re obsessed with every part of her look—the flushed cheeks, the strawberry-pink pout, the voluptuous eyelashes, and that totally on-trend top knot. The Scandal star is well on her way to becoming a fashion and beauty icon. Read on to learn how to recreate Kerry’s gorgeous hair and makeup at home.
Defined cheekbones like Kerry’s start with the right base. (This lightweight, matte foundation from CoverGirl is perfect for summer.) After you’ve applied foundation evenly all over your face, trace translucent loose powder across your cheekbones with a puff or fluffy powder brush. Then softly brush bronzer onto your face, starting mid-cheek and moving out toward your ear and below your cheekbones. Brush a little more translucent powder onto your cheeks to make sure the bronzer looks subtle and natural. Lastly, apply your blush onto the apples of your cheeks (smile to make them pop!) for a fresh, flirty look. Finish with fuschia lipstick and a few coats of black mascara.
And don’t forget about your hair! Top knots are an easy solution for staying cool and looking chic in the August heat and humidity. See how to do a bun as fab as Kerry’s in this step-by-step video.

We were blown away when actress Zoe Saldana wore this incredibly chic updo to the Star Trek premiere. With swept-back hair, soft makeup, and classic red lipstick, Zoe is the epitome of glamour. To recreate her style, start with hair that hasn’t been washed for a day. Although Zoe’s hair is fairly straight, this look works great with naturally wavy hair, too. Starting at the front of your head, take a strand of hair, twist it, and pin into place. Continue twisting piece by piece all the way down and back. Do this on both sides of your head. Once both sides meet, twist the hair up into itself and secure with bobby pins. It’s ok if it looks a little undone because you’ll finish your look with a delicate beaded headband. (We like this one from Anthropologie.) Add some light-hold hairspray, and you have a sophisticated new ‘do perfect for a summer soiree.

Short hair is having a moment. Top models Karlie Kloss and Arizona Muse recently chopped off their long locks, and a whole host of celebrities have followed suit. What better time to try the style for yourself than right now? Actress Brittany Snow shows how it’s done with this simple tousled bob.
If you don’t already have short hair, ask your stylist for a bob cut with long layers. The layers will give your hair more volume and dimension without weighing you down. (Tip: Make sure your longest layer hits just below the chin because it will look shorter when worn wavy.) Try a deep side part and sideswept bangs for extra glamour. Check out our favorite celebrity bobs for more ideas.
Next, get gorgeous beachy waves like Brittany’s – without spending a day at the shore. All you need is a curling rod and some light-hold hairspray. Section your hair into 1 1/2-inch pieces. Wrap each section around the curling rod one at a time, and after a few seconds release the hair from the rod. The more tightly you wrap your hair around the rod, the tighter the curls will be. Continue curling the rest of your head, alternating the direction you wrap each piece. Once finished, shake out your curls and run your fingers through your hair. Don’t worry about making them perfect; with this look, the messier, the better! Finish with a spritz of hairspray. (Need more direction? See our step-by-step video guide.)
