David Kriegel, M.D., Dermatology and Mohs Surgery
Why LHJ loves him: He's our go-to guy for all things related to skin cancer. He helped us with our series "Say No to Skin Cancer" (June, July, August 2010), which won a prestigious Gold Triangle Award from the American Academy of Dermatology. He even let us shoot a video of a skin check in his office.
Medical degree: Boston University School of Medicine.
Postdoctoral training: Internship, internal medicine, Harvard Medical School; residency in dermatology, Tufts University School of Medicine; fellowship in Mohs and reconstructive surgery, SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine.
Bio: Dr. Kriegel is a nationally recognized expert in skin cancer, Mohs micrographic surgery, and cosmetic and laser surgery. Under his guidance, the Manhattan Center for Dermatology has become a nationally recognized facility for all aspects of dermatologic, skin cancer, and cosmetic needs. Dr. Kriegel's academic orientation has allowed the Manhattan Center for Dermatology to share its state-of-the-art approach to medicine with the greater medical community and as such, it has become a satellite academic site for Mount Sinai School of Medicine's skin cancer and cosmetic fellowship program. Dr. Kriegel has been practicing Mohs and laser surgery since 1994. He is currently the director of the division of dermatologic and Mohs surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, a position that he has held since 1997. Dr. Kriegel has also been the director of the Mohs surgery fellowship program at Mount Sinai Hospital since 2003. This program is one of 36 nationally accredited programs by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
In addition, Dr. Kriegel has published many academic articles and book chapters on Mohs surgery, skin cancer, and dermatologic surgery. He has lectured throughout the United States on skin cancer and cosmetic procedures. He has been a featured expert in numerous articles in magazines. He has been quoted and interviewed on news programs across the United States. He has been recognized as a skin cancer expert in the New York Times Letters as well as by Lou Dobbs on CNN. Dr. Kriegel has been recognized by New York magazine's "Best Doctors" issue, the "Super Doctors" issue of the New York Times, by Castle Connolly in its America's Top Doctors editions, and in America's Top Doctors for cancer.
