Deep breathing really does melt away stress, says psychologist Fred Luskin, PhD, coauthor of Stress Free for Good. After two to three deep breaths, your body's parasympathetic nervous system -- which relaxes you -- will take over. Inhale through your nose for a count of four, making sure your belly rises. Then exhale through your mouth for a count of three, letting your belly flatten.
