Practice the Three-Bite Method

If you look forward to your Aunt Edna's chocolate cake all year long, don't deny yourself. Just take a small slice, savor it thoroughly and use the three-bite rule: "Studies show that people always rate the first and last bites as the best," says Zuckerbrot. "Three bites give you a first, a middle, and a last -- all you need to appreciate a dessert completely." Or contribute a low-fat dessert to the gathering: sorbet, biscotti, dried fruit, pumpkin pie (instead of pecan), or fresh strawberries dipped in melted dark chocolate.
