Hand Quilt

This quilt makes a great present for a grandparent or other special person. The three sections can be used for three children, three ages, or just three different colors.
What You Need:

This quilt is sure to be
a hands-down favorite.

  • Dowel rod
  • Darning needle
  • Embroidery floss
  • Acrylic paint and brush
  • 16x32-inch strip of felt
  • 1/2 yard of heavy cotton, chambray, or canvas, cut into 12x7-inch pieces
  • Permanent marker

Instructions:

1. Brush paint onto child's hands. Press hands onto cotton piece. Let dry. Write the child's name and age under the handprint.

2. Make tabs on top of quilt. Cut five 2-inch-thick tabs (1 inch apart and 3 inches deep) along the top of the felt. Sew five buttons below tabs. Cut vertical slits in tab ends, button together.

3. Glue or stitch handprinted cotton piece to felt. (There is room for three sets of handprints spaced two inches apart.)

4. Run dowel through tabs.
