Any clear glass items, such as candleholders and vases, can be painted with bright colors to lend a festive atmosphere to your party.

What You Need:

Brighten the party with painted glass.

Clear glass candleholder, any variety
Glass paints in desired colors (available at art and crafts stores)
Paintbrushes
Pencil with a round-tip eraser

Instructions:

1. Wash and dry the glassware. Avoid touching the areas to be painted. (Handle the glass with lint-free towels if necessary.)

2. To paint the underside of a piece of glassware (such as the taper candleholder base): Begin by painting the design. To make dots, dip the eraser end of a pencil or paintbrush handle into paint and dot onto the surface. Repeat as many times as desired. Let the paint dry. Paint on the background color.

3. To paint the outside of a piece of glassware (such as the votive holder rim): Begin by painting the background color. Let it dry. Paint stripes and dots as desired. Let dry.

4. Bake in the oven to cure if directed by the paint manufacturer. Let cool in oven before handling.

Other Ideas:

Check closeout stores and thrift shops for inexpensive glassware pieces for this project.
For temporary, peel-off glass decorating, use fabric paint pens.
For a coordinating tray, paint the glass of a picture frame and secure the backing with a piece of wood.
