Don't leave the salon unhappy -- here's what you can do.
Salons are in the business of making you look and feel great. So if you're unhappy with the treatment or service you receive, most salons will go out of their way to fix the problem; you simply need to let them know. Here, some tips on how to avoid problems in the first place -- and how to finesse the situation if problems do arise:
- Bring photos when you're going for a cut or color. Most mistakes happen when there's a lapse in communication between stylist and client. Showing your stylist photos can help him understand just what look you're going for.
- Pay attention during the service. If your stylist seems to be cutting off too much hair or has left your color on for too long, speak up in a polite way.
- If you are unhappy, let your stylist know as soon as he finishes. Ask if there are other ways to style the look, as it "isn't quite what [you] wanted." Often, a stylist will try to correct the mistake at this point.
- If you get nowhere with your stylist, ask to speak to the salon manager. Explain your dissatisfaction calmly and pleasantly. The manager will most likely offer you a complimentary corrective service (another cut or fix-it color). If you'd prefer a full refund, state that firmly and with a smile. Most managers will give you a refund without question.
- If you don't get what you want from the manager, ask for the number of the salon owner. Call when you're calm to state your case!
