Beach hairstyles should be simple, quick, and most of all, easy to recreate after you swim. Experiment with these ideas, based on your hair's length:
If your hair is short: Sweep dry hair back with a plastic (Read: water-, sun-, and sand-resistant) headband; remove before hitting the surf, then simply slip back into damp hair when done. Be sure to apply sunscreen along your hairline to avoid a very painful burn!
If your hair is medium-length: Try a half-up, half-down style. Make a part across the top of your head, from ear to ear. Gather the hair in front of the part, and pull back to the crown of your head. Secure with a plastic mini-clamp or easy-to-close barrette. Allow the hair behind the part to stay loose.
If your hair is long: Gather hair into a low ponytail. Secure the base with a covered elastic. Loosely braid the tail all the way to its end, but don't secure the end. Now coil the braid around the base of the pony. Clip into place with a metal jaw clip. When you feel like a swim, remove the clip and jump in. Then you can just coil the wet braid again and clip into place. --Lisa Kovalovich
