Is your elderly parent still able to live on her own? Would you prefer to have your parent living with you or with a roommate? Do you have time to care for the needs of your parent in your home? The answers to some of these questions will help you decide which housing option is the best fit for your family.

Given an option, my senior parent would prefer to live:

In a community with other seniors, but in her own apartment or unit. She likes her independence but is very social.

In her own home. She loves her home and is still physically and mentally able to be on her own. She could still use help with meal preparation and maintaining the house.

With her family. She has difficulty maintaining her own home and can't get around as well as she used to. She loves being with her family and we love being with her.

Somewhere where they can take care of her. She knows that she can't be alone anymore in her own home.
