Don't rule out serving steak at your summer barbecue because of a fear of lurking fat. Many cuts meet the USDA standard for lean meat, which requires a 3-ounce serving to have less than 10 grams of total fat, 4.5 grams of saturated fat, and 95 milligrams of cholesterol. Red meat is also packed with protein and vitamins and minerals such as B12 and iron. "Choosing leaner cuts is a good way to incorporate key nutrients found in beef and still have a lot of flavor and taste without too much fat," says Elisa Zied, RD, a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association.
