Laundry Room

Problem: How can I make my laundry room more functional?

1. Make the pre-work easy. Ask your husband and kids to sort their clothes. Put three separate labeled baskets or bins in the laundry room: one for whites, one for colors, and one for dry cleaning.
Share the load. Have each person put away his or her own clothes. Stack each family member's clean, folded laundry in a separate basket -- it will save you from running up and down the stairs all day long.
Don't forget the extras. Keep trash and recycling cans in the laundry room for dryer lint and empty detergent bottles. You should also start a finders-keepers box where you put coins, dollar bills, and receipts you find in pockets. If your husband or kids haven't claimed their money after two weeks, put it into your own treat fund. (Cappuccino, perhaps?) This will help them remember to check their clothes more carefully the next time around.
