Although you can't shrink large pores (common in women with oily skin), you can definitely make them appear less obvious.
At home: Regular cleansing and exfoliation will minimize oil and remove pore-clogging debris, says Jeffrey Dover, MD, a Boston dermatologist and associate clinical professor of dermatology at Yale University. Look for treatments with glycolic acid or retinol, which help smooth and refine skin texture. The cosmetics you choose make a difference, too. Start with primer and use a creamy foundation to give your skin a velvety finish, says Charlotte Willer, Maybelline makeup artist.
See a pro: Your derm can give you an exfoliating chemical peel. (Never let a facialist squeeze blackheads and pimples because extractions can cause structural damage to the skin, making pores bigger over time, says Dr. Dover.) Ask your doctor if you're a good candidate for a prescription retinoid, like Retin-A or Refissa, which exfoliates pores and smooths wrinkles.
