A coat of shiny black paint gives elegant carved pumpkins a gothic twist. To make carving easier, first be sure to scoop out the pumpkin's flesh until the shell is about a third to a half inch thick. Spray-paint the pumpkin, trace real leaf shapes onto its surface with chalk, then cut them out with a pumpkin-carving knife.
