Hot Chocolate

Kitchen cue: We made this Hot Chocolate with water instead of heavy cream or half-and-half so that you could really taste the chocolate and the flavor wasn't obscured by dairy.

  • 8 ounces  bittersweet (not unsweetened) or milk chocolate, chopped


1. Melt chocolate in a metal bowl over a medium saucepan of simmering water, stirring, until smooth. Remove bowl from heat and whisk in 1-1/2 cups of hot water until smooth. Transfer mixture to an empty saucepan and heat until hot.

2. Pour hot chocolate into small, heat-proof glasses. Makes 6 servings.
