Getting Started with the Recipe Center

The Recipe Center is our ever-growing online cookbook. You'll find three kinds of recipes here:
  • Kitchen-tested recipes come from the editors at Better Homes and Garden, Ladies' Home Journal, Midwest Living, and other magazines published by Meredith Corporation.
  • Member recipes are uploaded by registered members of our network of home and family Web sites. These recipes are the responsibility of the member who uploads them, and are not tested or approved by us.
  • Sponsor recipes are supplied to us by other companies. Like member recipes, sponsor recipes are not tested by us.
Each type of recipe is clearly marked on the recipe page. If you're brand new to the Recipe Center, start at the Main Page. From this "home base" you can click to our Recipes of the Day, search for recipes, or access our Member-only features like My Recipe File and Upload a Recipe.

Top 10 Recipe Collections. Our Food editors have selected the very best of our Kitchen-Tested Recipes to include in dozens of convenient collections. You'll find links to these collections throughout the Recipe Center.

Important Note: Although you can read and print all available recipes without being a Web site member, many special features -- like saving recipes to My Recipe File -- require membership. If you're not already a member, join today. It's FREE!

Finding and Saving Recipes

There are several ways to find recipes that meet your needs:

Searching. On most pages throughout the Recipe Center, you'll find a blank Recipe Search text box. Type an ingredient or recipe name into this box, then click Go. To limit your search to recipes you can make in 30 minutes or less, click the "30-minute Recipe" box before clicking the Go button.

The Search Results page shows recipes (and recipe collections) that match your search terms. The recipes are divided into three types: Kitchen-Tested Recipes, Member Recipes, and Sponsor Recipes. Click any recipe title to view the recipe, or use the links at the bottom of each section to view more matching recipes of that type.

Browsing. If you are just looking for great ideas for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you can browse the Recipe Center just as you would browse a cookbook. Click on the Recipe Index tab near the top of each page to see a clickable list of all our recipe categories.

Recipe Collections. Our Food experts have assembled their favorite recipes in dozens of categories. You'll find links to featured collections throughout the Recipe Center. Or, click the Recipe Index tab to view a list of all collections.

What's for Dinner? You'll find this button on most pages of the Recipe Center. Click it to view 3 randomly selected main dish recipes that can be prepared in 30 minutes or less.

Recipe Pages

Viewing a Recipe. Wherever you are on BHG.com, clicking on a recipe title link will call up the complete recipe. If you arrive at a recipe from a Search Results page, use the navigation at the top of the page to return to your search results, or to move to the next and previous in the list of recipes you found.

Recipe Tools. Use these options to enhance your enjoyment of the Recipe Center:

  • Printing a Recipe. Click the Print This button to view a printer-ready version of the recipe. Use your browser's print function to print the recipe as shown, or select one of the alternate formats 3x5 or 4x6, then print. If you select 3x5 or 4x6 cards, follow the instructions for cutting and folding the printed recipe.
  • E-Mailing a Recipe. It's easy to e-mail your favorite recipe to a friend. Just click the E-mail This button and fill in the form that appears.
  • Saving a Recipe. Registered Web site members to save recipes to a personal page called My Recipe File. If you find a recipe you like, you can save it to a special page called My Recipe File. You'll find links to My Recipe File on most pages throughout the Recipe Center. Whenever you save a recipe, you also have the option of saving it to your Shopping List.
Viewing/Adding Member Comments. If comments are available for a recipe, click the View Comments link. You'll see how our Web site members have rated this recipe.

To add you own comments, you must be a member. Click the Add Comments link and follow the instructions that appear.
