El Coto de Rioja Blanco 2007, produced from the top-selling wine brand in Spain, has a unique taste that's subtle and refreshing. At first, the aroma of pears and apples were enough to entice my interest in the wine. While I admit the first sip did not live up to my expectations, partially due to the fact that I enjoy very sweet wines such as Riesling, the clean, medium-bodied taste did begin to grow on me. This wine strikes a great balance between acidity and a faint sweetness. And, at just $12 a bottle, it's a great steal that you can pair with any shellfish, scallops, or pork dish!
