Tomato Topper
Ripe, juicy tomatoes are inexpensive and easy to find this month. Get beefsteak, cherry, and heirloom varieties. (Remember to store them stem-side down on the countertop, never in the fridge.) They're a no-brainer in salads, but we also like them tossed with pasta and shrimp or as a tasty Italian relish.

Chopped Caprese
Use as a topping on toasted bread or as a condiment for grilled meats and vegetables.
Combine 2 medium tomatoes diced, 8 ounces diced fresh mozzarella, 2 cloves minced garlic, 1/2 cup chopped flat-leaf parsley, 3 tablespoons chopped fresh basil, 1/2 teaspoon each kosher salt and black pepper. Makes 2 1/2 cups.
