These inexpensive woven circular mats were transformed with a wide band of imitation silver-leaf material. Apply a light coat of clear-drying craft glue around the edge of your mat. With your fingers, gently press the delicate squares of imitation silver leaf (it comes in packages of several sheets at crafts stores) onto the glue. Allow to dry completely and brush off excess with a soft, dry paintbrush.
Working on the back of a clear-glass dessert plate, apply the same silver-leafing process to the outer rim. Add a splash of color with two coats of craft paint applied to the center of the plate and finish with a coat of water-based polyurethane over the entire surface. Note: Plates are safe to eat from and should only be gently hand-washed.
