Offer "No, Thank You" Portions

You steamed some edamame for Sunday supper and the kids are revolting? "Offer a 'no, thank you' portion so the kids at least get to see and touch the food, even if they don't eat it," says Melissa Hawthorne, M.S., R.D., L.D., of The Houstonian Club in Houston. Put one or two on their plate, talk it up, and hope for the best. Remember, research shows it takes 10 to 20 neutral exposures to a food for kids to try it (oh, and your yelling "Eat it or else!" in frustration doesn't count as helpful).
