Did You Know That...

  • One in four American women report being physically assaulted and/or raped by a current or former spouse, cohabiting partner, or date at some time in their life?
  • A woman is beaten every 15 seconds, according to the FBI?
  • In 1996, 30 percent of all female murder victims in the United States were slain by their husbands or boyfriends?
  • Around the world, at least one in every three women has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime?
  • While men are victims of domestic abuse, 92 percent of those subjected to violence are women?

How You Can Help

Your discarded cell phone can save a life. From now until November 10, 2002 bring your old cell phones to any of The Body Shop's 300 locations nationwide. The phones will be refurbished and sold with proceeds benefiting the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and The Wireless Foundation. In addition, 3,000 refurbished cell phones will be programmed to dial emergency numbers and donated to local shelters that have teamed with The Body Shop. The phones will then be distributed to victims of family violence.

Go to The Body Shop Web site to find a store near you.
