Five Kid Favorites
Keeping kids happy from the beginning of the trip to the end can be a real challenge. One way to assure this is to prepare for your trip in advance with snacks, activities, games, and travel gear. Besides specially prepared activities, don't forget these easy things to throw into the kids' travel bag:
1. A deck of cards.
2. A CD player or Walkman and plenty of CDs or tapes.
3. Pillows. If a pillow is available, you will be amazed how easily kids can fall asleep when they have something soft to lay their heads on.
4. Audio books. You can buy these or rent from the library. Your child can be busy for hours, and what a wonderful alternative to motion sickness from reading in the car.
5. Postcards. Kids love buying postcards to send home to family and friends. Don't forget to bring along stamps. Involve your children in the travel-destination cities. Show your child the location on the map and globe, calculate distance between home and the city, and learn about local weather and customs. This will help kids understand where they are and feel that they are part of the decision-making process while you travel.
