Who wants to spend a lot of time fussing with eye makeup during the dog days of summer? And there's no reason to, since this season calls for lightly made-up eyes, using new glammed-up neutrals, such as brown, taupe, and ivory, as the palette that will take your summer days from ho-hum to hubba-hubba. The secret lies in the sexy metallic sheen that has been added to these formerly matte shades. "It's a great way to update your look," explains Troy Surratt, global consultant makeup artist for Maybelline New York. "You still get a natural effect, but these shades really brighten the eyes."
You can swipe on just shadow or, for an evening look, rim your eyes with a dark brown or charcoal eyeliner. Steer clear of black, however, as that can be too dramatic even for hot summer nights. Mascara, as always, is the perfect finishing touch. Try out some of the new waterproof eye shadows and mascaras, which promise to stay put even if you decide to dash under a sprinkler.
