Even, Clear Skin

If there is ever a moment to wear foundation and concealer, picture time is it. This duo evens out blotchy skin, minimizes shadows, and reduces redness in a way that you'll appreciate once you get your prints back. However, don't think that you have to pile on the makeup; instead, simply adjust your application technique. Dot foundation on your forehead, nose, and chin and carefully blend outward with a foundation brush; we like Sonia Kashuk's Nylon Foundation Brush 15, $9.99. (A sponge will also work, but makeup artists tell us that about a third of your foundation bottle is typically left on your sponge.)

Next up is concealer. Choose one that's just a shade lighter than your foundation since a too-light shade will look ashy in pictures. Place it close to the inner and outer corners of your eyes, where skin is extra dark, and blend with the same foundation brush.
