"Don't skip moisturizer when you use matte foundation or powder," says Hoffman. "It keeps skin smooth and helps your makeup last throughout the day." Also, you need the right tools so you'll get the most natural, even finish. Use a synthetic brush or sponge to apply foundation and a fluffy round brush for powder. If your skin starts to look chalky or too "done," buff away excess makeup with a clean brush or soft puff.
