What Are Mineral Foundations?
Mineral foundations are becoming more popular these days, and for good reason: They're easy to use and very gentle on the skin. These products are made from actual minerals, including zinc, titanium, mica, and iron. The minerals are micronized, or ground into very fine particles, and blended to create different skin-friendly shades.
Mineral foundations are a great choice for people with sensitive skin, because most are formulated without talc, oil, preservatives, or fragrances. These common irritants, often found in liquid foundation, can cause rashes, breakouts, and redness. Dermatologists often recommend mineral foundation for women with conditions like acne and rosacea. What's more, these products naturally contain an SPF of 15.
To use mineral foundation, simply swirl a fluffy brush into the product, then lightly buff across your face. You can apply several layers for more coverage, or apply with a sponge in place of concealer. Four great mineral foundations: bareMinerals by Bare Escentuals, $25; and La Bella Donna's Mineral Eraser, $32; Pür Minerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup Foundation with SPF 15, $25.50.
