Switching Roles

In 1947's "I Wear the Apron Now," a husband who switched roles with his wife denounced the popular belief that mothers were better caretakers of children and worried that too many fathers were strangers to their offspring.

In 1963 Ladies' Home Journal published an excerpt from The Feminine Mystique, by Betty Friedan, the book widely credited with igniting the feminist movement.
