125 Years of Ladies' Home Journal: Fashion

Fashion has been a key part of Ladies' Home Journal since our birth in 1883 -- the year Coco Chanel was born. Our first issue declared "velvet ribbons are in high favor" and we took off on a style adventure lasting 125 years. We were visionary from the start, filing dispatches from Paris as early as 1900 and being among the first to champion American style and designers -- as well as trousers and business clothing for women. Today we continue to dedicate ourselves to making fashion fascinating and functional for readers.

Cover Chic

In the 1920s and '30s, Ladies' Home Journal covers were the epitome of confident high style, featuring elegantly drawn figures sporting the latest silhouettes. When photography took over, smart-looking models, clad in the newest designs, made fashion and Ladies' Home Journal covers synonymous.

Here, a 1929 cover portrayed the coquettish style of a young sophisticate.
