125 Years of Ladies' Home Journal: Food

Food has been a must-have ingredient in Ladies' Home Journal's coverage for more than a century. In reporting not only on delicious recipes but also advances in healthy eating, kitchen equipment, and dining etiquette, we have long prided ourselves on keeping readers informed and up-to-date.

Party Pretty

Our slogan since the 1940s, "Never Underestimate the Power of a Woman(r)" became wearable in 1965 when it was made into a special-order Ladies' Home Journal apron pattern. A cover model posed in a floor-length version (with matching potholders) in October of that year; inside there were pictures of a shorter apron option and a form for ordering the "Never Underestimate" fabric. Patterns, with one yard of fabric, cost $1.98.
