By Virginia Willis
There's a reason we call comfort food comfort food; the thought of our favorite foods puts a smile on our face, and eating it fills us and takes us to happier places. Southerners seem to have this idea down pat -- especially Virginia Willis, the author of Bon Appetit, Y'All. The recipes from her book consist of favorites passed down from her grandmother and mother, whose approbation to Southern cooking is clear from the delicious variety offered.
Willis, a French-trained chef and food writer, gives a classical flare to many of the down-home dishes included in the book. Not to fear, each recipe is easy to follow and she includes helpful tips and descriptions throughout. Color photographs spatter the pages, making the food look even better than it sounds. Bourbon Sweet Potatoes, Mama's Orange Glazed Cornish Game Hens, and Brown-Sugar Shortcakes are only a few of the appealing dishes to make you swoon.
