"Animal Affairs" columnist Jeanne Marie Laskas is the author of the newly released memoir, The Exact Same Moon (Doubleday 2003), a chronicle of her daughters' adoption from China, and a sequel to the widely acclaimed Fifty Acres and a Poodle (Doubleday 2000), her hilarious tale of moving from the city to the country. She is a columnist for The Washington Post Magazine, where her "Significant Others" essays appear weekly, and a contributing editor at Esquire. Her magazine pieces have been featured in numerous collections, including Best American Sportswriting.

She received her MFA in nonfiction writing from the University of Pittsburgh, where she currently serves on the writing faculty as assistant professor. She is also the author of The Balloon Lady and Other People I Know and We Remember. She lives and farms with her husband and daughters, along with their poodle, mutts, mules, sheep and other animals, at Sweetwater Farm in Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania.
